This park is a lovely place to come for a picnic, a walk, a jog, a game of whiffleball or to lie on the grass and read a book. There are old shade trees and gravel paths and a Viet Nam Memorial. It sits under the imposing State Capital building up on the hill.

Capitol Park...wasn't it designed by Frederick Law Olmstead or some famous genius of outdoor engineering? Something in this vicinity was... However, when you're there, you're bound only to get a view of the imposing and not-so-nice State Capitol Complex. Maine...it isn't that great! Nasty un-Constitutional laws still permit the Powers-That-Be to lock one in a mental facility for no reason...and... More

Capitol Park, as it's name suggests in located across from the state Capitol building. It's a wonderful location to have a picnic and there are walking paths all around it to stretch your legs. It's also near the Maine State Museum and the Kennebec River Rail Trail.

I lived on Center Street about a 1 to 2 minute walk away. I always played there as a kid. Alot of people seemed to use it back in the day, but no one really knows it is there. Much is unchanged since my childhood days. They have added a few nice benches and a couple graveled paths, but not... More

Lots of space to play ball with the family, have a picnic or a family party. Well maintained, easily accessible. Right across from the YMCA and the police station.

Dog friendly and great view of the capital bulding. I met another pet owner who refered me to a great local pet store just up the road!

Regular visitor as I'm often in the area. Would like to see more welcoming paths and directions to out-of-town folks and more flowers, especially visible from Capitol and State Streets.

After touring the Maine State House and State Museum, we walked down the street to view the front of the governor's mansion (not open that day), and then we walked across the street to the capitol park. We were interested to see the Vietnam Memorial which was different from any that we have seen. The location was also a great... More

Captiol Park isn't unattractive; there just isn't much there. There is a metal sculpture in honor of Vietnam veterans, and an early grave monument, but otherwise is almost completely empty. There are some nice old trees, but there really aren't many flowers or ornamental plantings there. There are occasionally events such as a children's celebration in the park, but it's... More
