As far as zoos go, this has to be one of the smallest around, but it does offer a wide variety of southern "swamp" animals and insects, so it has a few items you might not see somewhere else. If you have kids, this is one of the few entertaining places to take them.

For a small town this is definitely a rare find. The zoo is well laid out with lots of activities for young and old. The train ride is great and lots of animals. GREAT PLACE

The Alexandria Zoo is no Birmingham, but there is plenty of variety. Train rides are worth the price, louisiana exhibit very interesting, they are constantly expanding or remodeling, reasonable season pass price, smoke-free, pleasant landscape, friendly staff....you will not regret your trip.

Pros: It had many species of birds and felines. It also has White Bengal Tigers. It was bigger than it sounded on the website, and was a very nice price.
Cons: They changed their hours to close earlier, but hadn't put them online. Not much in terms of reptiles, or non-feline mammals.

Alexandria has a tremendous zoo! You don't want to miss this if you get the chance to go. They have apparently added numerous exhibits and expanded the zoo. Almost the entire walking path is shaded so it is something that you can brave on a hot day. Our favorite exhibit was the Gibbon Deck, where the gibbons performed for us...

I have been to a lot of zoos, and I was not expecting much of this small-town zoo. But I was actually very impressed. The exhibits are well designed, with...

Nice zoo. Mostly shaded walks with a good variety of animals. Really affordable fun for the family. $3 adult and $2 for kids. The train wasn't much but the kids enjoyed it. Only draw backs was the musky smell (but is a zoo), and some of the exhibits was hard for small kids to see due to the bamboo fence.

We have a zoo in our own town and we LOVE this one. The boys love the train ride, feeding the fish, the Louisianna aquarium exhibit, the Louisiana otter and alligator exhibits. This is a well-landscaped zoo with active animals. A nice playground. We just love visiting this zoo.
