I always liked to visit Miraflores when I am in Panama, it's amazing to see these huge ships to go in front of you and have a good food; but this time, I made my reservation for dinner at the restaurant (you don't need to pay the entrance if you go for dinner), and they kept me waiting for one... Go to top to watch ships go through locks. Watch the 10 minute movie -- on the hour for English, on the half-hour for Spanish. Wander through the museum. Entire visit 1 to 1.5 hours, plus any eating time.

This part of our tour sounded like a bore, but turned out great! Museum was fun and the view of ships going through the locks from the observation deck was educational. Glad we did it before going through on a boat so we knew what to expect.

I expand the comments under the Canal section. A must to visit because of the history and uniqueness. Worth the $15; great for kids and adults. Better go around 11 am or 2 pm to see ships going through or call to check. Price include a short 3D video, museum, and observation deck with a narration in Spanish and English.... More

The Miraflores Visitor Center was well organized and informative. It is useful to watch the complementary video as it reinforces the content that is provided in the museum. Observing a ship using the canal is the best way to truly appreciate the locks but during this time, the crowds may be overwhelming for some. If you do not have the... More

My spouse really wanted to go to see the locks but I was not that interested... Of course, I was in Panama City so I went. I was pleasantly surprised that I was kept interested the entire time watching a shipping vessel go through the locks. Even though they move very slowly, it was interesting to watch the process and... More

Plan for 2-3 hours to take it all in. I loved it. I had so many answers about the history, how the canal worked, etc. and they were all answered. The center is four floors, with canal viewing terraces at each floor. Each floor has a theme: history, biodiversity, canal workings, and canal today. There is also a 10 min... More

Plan on 1-2 hours examining the exhibits, all very educational. Plan on another 30-60 minutes viewing the passing ships in the working locks below, from the 7-story viewing tower. There's also a good restaurant in the same building, and an orientation video. Overall plan on 3-4 hours for a full visit.

I enjoyed my visit to the Miraflores locks. The price is a bit high ($15) but it was nice to see the canal in action. The museum needs a bit more but I did enjoy the movie and learning about the engineering and history behind the canal. Walk a little further away to get a cheaper cab than the ones... More

Always good to get the facts and the museum is very well set out. We also watched a 3D movie which gave us more insight to all the effort put into the actual building of the canal. All in all a great visit.
