We knew that we had to visit the Panama Canal during our week in Panama City/Farallon and the Miraflores Locks Visitor Centre seemed like the perfect opportunity to learn a little about the biggest attraction of the country, at least in my opinion. We watched the 3D movie, explored all the displays, and even watched a ship pass through the... More

Great viewing area to watch the ships come through. Watch the educational video in English or Spanish. Experience the museum. There is a cafe and a restaurant for snacks and meals. Also there is a gift shop for souvenirs.

Cheap ticket of only US$15.00 for foreigners (a bit cheaper for locals) can get you to a 3D video with explanation of the canal, a 4 stories high interactive museum, a really nice open deck on the 4th floor where you can see the actual boats and vessels going through the locks. There's free Wi-Fi on the place, a coffee... More

You can not visit Panama without visiting the Miraflores Locks! Visit in the afternoon so that you see the most number of ships go through the locks. The pride of Panama

An extraordinary view of the canal from the Miraflores locks, three levels devoted to watch photos, artifacts used to built it and a short movie with an historical background.

Going through Maraflores Lock was a dream come true. I'd read of Teddy Roosevelt's grand idea, and now, I could see and experience its importance to trade by reducing the trip from the Pacific to Atlantic oceans by 8,000 miles. Very simply put, Teddy took over where the French left off. They began digging the canal in 1881 and failed... More

We were amazed at the engineering that went into building and maintaining the canal. Definitely going back to experience the tour through the canal ourselves.

It is eye opening to see the locks in operation and understand the actual passage. Please go through all the exhibits, as there is a wealth of history in the building of the canal and the variety of nationalities that were present during the construction, as well as the tools and construction methods used.

A quick taxi ride from Casco Viejo. Walk up and buy a ticket - around $15; I suggest buying the ticket that includes everything. The visitors center has several floors and lots to do. Call ahead to see when (and which) ships will be passing through; I was told by locals that times are best from 8a-11a and 2-4p. There... More

Maybe it's a case of decades of buildup but I arrived and was let down. Reminds me of finding out Santa Clause were my parents, spending the next few years feeling the joy of Christmas was a big commercial let down. I always wanted to visit the Canal and often found myself watching the Discovery Channel and History Channel whenever... More
