The second Old City is a charming ,quaint sector full of old restored buildings, mixed with derelict ones but on the way to become a great attraction for Panama City. Only the colonial churches are worth the visit plus Independence Square and The National Theater.Tour guides are available and The Tourist Police active.Lots of restaurants and small hotels.Great to walkabout because... Definitely worth spending some time here. A lot of buildings have now been restored (or are in the process of), although most of the work has been completed, judging by what a few of the shopowners were saying. You can walk there from the business district by heading out to the Cinta Costera and picking up a walking trail, which... More

Casco Viejo is an essential part of any tourist's visit to Panama City. It has a tremendous mixture of architecture, lots of history and is a real enigma. The mix of beautifully restored buildings are interspersed with derelict buildings and buildings full of squatters that speak to the economic disparity within the country. It is definitely worth spending time exploring... More

Very charming area under going major restoration. Very clean for a city with lots of places to eat and drink. Love the fact that we saw very little junky tourist stores though they could have used some more local handicraft stores.

Definitely worth a walking visit; reminiscent of Cartagena, Colombia but many buildings are in disrepair. Several restaurants that looked nice but I didn't try any.

There is so much to see in this old part of Panama. The taxi ride from the Multiplaza Pacific Mall to Casco Viejo is $6.00. You can always bargain. Check out Frommers Panama there is a good map on page 39 and key interst points to take note of for Casco Viego. Ask to be dropped off at 2nd Calle... More

Great area of Panama. This is the heart beat of the country. Where everything started. Extremely rich in history.

It is such a beautiful place. The old churches, the bricks streets... There are several museums and restaurants. Don't forget to visit the Teatro Nacional!

This is the heart of Panama and the place where it all began... "Casco Viejo" is a designated "Unesco World Heritage" site and a "Must Visit" when in Panama! This is a historic gem of a city and the ongoing restoration work of the beautiful, mainly French/Spanish colonial buildings is very impressive! The area is relatively small and very walkable!... As time goes by Casco Viejo has continued to grow - the way that they are doing up the old buildings is awesome. Great atmosphere, great places to eat/drink, or even just for a drive through.
