Don't miss taking a tour of the Old City. The beautiful old buildings and churches are very interesting. We bought some nice gifts in a few of the shops and they have a large area in one of the squares with local people selling all kinds of crafts.

The Old City (Casco Viejo) dates from the time of the Spanish Empire and includes colonial architecture, churches, the national theater, shops, restaurants and part of the old fort. The shops range from boardwalk vendors to expensive Panama hat stores. We had several nice meals here and very pleasant walks along the waterfront. As you walk around the waterfront, you... More

They are working on rebuilding the old town area. While I am sure it will look fantastic in the end, it is this in-between phase that I enjoy the most. The all new renovated old towns have a feeling of mall decorating ambiance. At old town Panama viejo, you see brand new renovations next to buildings falling down with hard... More

We had an afternoon to hang around Panama City. As such we elected to visit The Old City. Definitely worth spending a couple of hours walking around and seeing the sites. The views of downtown Panama City were great (better in high tide). The area is undergoing a lot of renovation and reconstruction. Those that have been redone are beautiful.... More

The Old city is a bit touristy. It is a big change from the tall buildings of Panama City but then its nothing special. You could walk a bit, see the buildings but there is nothing of real architectural or historical significance worth visiting. Good to go and see oonce

Very beautiful old city and well maintained with the exception of few buildings that were neglected. Just keep walking in the center of the old city and avoid the outside area.

There are good and bad things about the Casco Viejo. On one hand, it's a bit dirty and slightly scary / shady, but on the other hand, there are interesting buildings to see and a lot of history here, and the locals seem eager for your business as you wander through the area.

This is a very nice place to wander the streets (you will recognize the areas to avoid & police patrol the areas for your safety). Take care walking on the streets as they are a little uneven with narrow sidewalks.

Interesting and pleasant place to walk around for a few hours, away from the busy cuty. Y Just a 10 minutes walk from Mercado Mariscos, whi h makes it a good combination.

Maybe because we were there late in the day, maybe because the Guide we had hired was not very knowledgeable, but this visit to the old city left us cold and unmoved. It felt claustrophobic and depressing. Yes, there were plenty of old buildings, most in the process of being renovated, but the old town did look like completely abandoned.... More
