Needs some work, but I liked it and it's both iconic and historical to Panama. Pope John Paul had visited here. There is a nice little plaza or park in front of the church. With many families and tourists here. Not overcrowded which was good. The exterior of the church is typical colonial style cathedral. The interior of the church... More

As cathedrals go this place is average but it has a lot of history. The altar is worth seeing and the cathedral has been restored. It adds to the attraction of a stroll around the old part of Panama.

This entire section of Panama City has a lot of old churches and old history. Each church is unique in it's own way. I can't imagine anyone giving a church a negative review lol. This cathedral adds a lot of character to Casco Viejo. Absolutely safe area. Many police and travelers are around this area.

It's a church. It has some nice iconography, but otherwise it's in bad shape and in need of repair. Take five and go in it, but don't expect to be blown away.

The day we visited. Weather was great. Church was somewhat crowded with many tourists. The central alter is magnificent. Only the middle section is gold but the entire central front alter is also painted gold to blend in very well with the original gold alter. The various areas around the interior have stations depicting various saints and are very well... More

If the inside of the cathedral is anything like the outside, I imagine it would have been spectacular. We did not have time from our tour to go inside, but our guide did point out that the roofs are covered in Mother of Pearl, so the inside would have been great to see. There are other UNESCO heritage sites in... More

We arrived late afternoon, but it was still daylight, and then and after dark the view was beautiful. We did not get inside, as renovations were occuring at the time, but it is a do not miss attraction. At night from Independence Square, the view with the lights is wonderful. It is an excellent place in the plaza for a... More

Cathedral closed for renovations, but it is an amazing structure to walk around, the plaza is great, stop and have some coffee in the square and soak up the history

Look up at the two towers of this old cathedral - the roofs are covered in Mother of Pearl. the cathedral is just across the street from a the Plaza de la Independencia a good spot to sit and relax after walking the streets of this wonderful UNESCO protected Spanish Colonial area. The church (no flash photography) is quiet, cool... More

This is a beautiful 200-year old cathedral just off of the Plaza de la Independencia in Panama Old Town. Unfortunately, during our quick visit on a Collette Vacations tour of Panama, we were unable to go inside.
