If the inside of the cathedral is anything like the outside, I imagine it would have been spectacular. We did not have time from our tour to go inside, but our guide did point out that the roofs are covered in Mother of Pearl, so the inside would have been great to see. There are other UNESCO heritage sites in... More

We arrived late afternoon, but it was still daylight, and then and after dark the view was beautiful. We did not get inside, as renovations were occuring at the time, but it is a do not miss attraction. At night from Independence Square, the view with the lights is wonderful. It is an excellent place in the plaza for a... More

Look up at the two towers of this old cathedral - the roofs are covered in Mother of Pearl. the cathedral is just across the street from a the Plaza de la Independencia a good spot to sit and relax after walking the streets of this wonderful UNESCO protected Spanish Colonial area. The church (no flash photography) is quiet, cool... More

This is a beautiful 200-year old cathedral just off of the Plaza de la Independencia in Panama Old Town. Unfortunately, during our quick visit on a Collette Vacations tour of Panama, we were unable to go inside.

The cathedral is among the best preserved churches of its time ... over 400 years old. The Spanish colonial architecture is evident. the ceilings a very high and constructed of wood. Despite the many tourists, it is a quiet place of contemplation ... consider the history it has survived, the people who have worshipped here, the piracy of it's artifacts... More

To set foot in a building as old as this church is special enough. The old facade draws you in, and moving through this beautiful church you can't help but marvel at the significance this building has had on Panama historically. Not always open for viewing, so plan your trip well if this is one church you wish to see.

If you love old buildings and churches then you will like this place. The Spanish architecture is evident. For a church that is over 200 years old the building is in very good condition. It is a little dark inside, but that is common for buildings from this time period. It is worth a stop to admire the paintings and... More

After finding it closed on sunday, we returned for a quick visit on monday. It was a little but disappointing. We expected to see the black/golden altar, but either it wasn't there, or we missed it. Neighbourhood is nice , anyway.

This old Iglesia is amazing. Bicolor and contrasting Black and White. It is a center point to ciudad vieja. It is also a height of Spanish church design in Central America
