A 2.5 hour trek through a bit of a desolate area and some bumpy roads (coming from Masaya), this was worth the journey. Words can't describe the beauty of this beach. Magnificent rock formations, beautiful waves and such sweet locals make for an ideal locale. Highly recommend for surfers, adventure seekers, families, couples, ANYONE who wants a more quiet version... More

Beautiful spot for surfers and nature lovers who don't need amenities. The drive to Popoyo includes a lot of rough, dirt roads. A car/truck built for the terrain is advised. The options for food, lodging and entertainment are meager, but the offshore breezes, uncrowded waves and scenic beauty are sure to please the right kind of traveller. Well off the... More

Loved this beach!. Uncrowded great for walking. One day my boyfriend and I were walking on this beach and saw an amazing sight of a sea turtle swimming ashore to lay her eggs.

Popoyo is a great beach with great waves. The old school traditional homes and restaurants make it an amazing place to surf, rest, and even eat at the places in front of the beach. Strongly recommend it over touristy San Juan del Sur

Popoyo Beach itself lies between two equally great beaches all an easy walk (I run the length of two each morning in about 50 mins return trip). To the South on the next bay is the magnificent Playa Jiquilite (now sometimes referred to as "Santana" beach). Unlike Popoyo proper which has a great break but is for professionals due to... More

We spent a lot of time at this beach on our recent trip. Awesome place to surf if youre inclined to do so, or grab a hammock at Finca Popoyo. Neat that they have great burgers, cheap beer, and Wifi on the beach in Nica! Free to get in, but expect to tip a few bucks at the Finca Popoyo... More

It is a bit of journey over some really incredible rough roads for the last say 20 of so km but in the end a paradise of a beach awaits one on the Nicaraguan Pacific coast. Popoyo beach and then just around the point adjoining and dominated by the cliff-top Magnific Rock hotel is another fantastic broad beach called Viquilite... More

Popoyo beach is the beach to surf ! There is a great bar on the cliff , with free wifi to catch up on things while you wait for the next set of waves to arrive. lots of hammocks , chairs to sit under the shade with a great view of the ocean. Beer, water, Gatorade and snacks are available.... More

I have been to quite a few beaches here, and this is one of my favorite spots...its wide, white sand, little crowd, very relaxed vibes, overall a nice relaxing stay and good surf.

I moved here from SC back in February and its not a crowded spot at all. Its long stretches of beautiful non commercialized beach thats never crowded. If you want good surfing, quiet place, gorgeous beach, yoga, safety, or family time this is the place to come. I do recommend that you bring your other half because it can get quite... More
