A friend is a member of the sailing club on Lake Coatepeque so four of us rented Hobie 14s and set sail on a fairly calm day. The wind was building and we ended up having a very exciting day! There is an beautiful lake-side park next to the sailing club.

Make sure that you have your own transportation as the public transport system is not dependable nor safe. Once solved this hurddle, you should try to contact any local propietor of a lot on the lake shore to guarantee that your visit will be a success. Beautiful sunrises and breathtaking sunsets, specially if you are sensible to the magical mixture... More

This place is amazing. The views, the climate, the water temperature, it's all great! But you definitely need to have a house to go to. Either rent one (make sure it has a docking space and a jet ski or boat) or tell a friend to invite you over. Otherwise there is nothing else to do. You can't walk around... More

Easy to find being well signposted. It is a very picturesque lake viewed from above, particularly from on of the roadside restaurants leading down to the lake, which incidentally served really good food at good prices. However, as others have mentioned, when you go down to the lakeside the road becomes dusty gravel and you aren't able to see the... More

As other reviewers have mentioned this is a great place to relax and unwind. There are lots of neat little places to eat, drink or hang out and enjoy the incredible scenery. It's definitely worth it to rent a boat tour and get out onto the lake. I even enjoyed the drive there, as it gives a small glimpse of... More

The water was clear and fresh. Boat dock was bit away from our place of lodging. Some planing is defiantly required before hand so as to not waste time and over stressing with tight spaces. The road going there is not maintained though and there are some areas where you need to maneuver to avoid other cars on the tight... More

After a very heavy day seeing images of death I finally found a place to unwind and relax. The water of this lake is clear and fresh. They have boats that you can hire if you want to sail. Restaurants also abound. The road going there is not maintained though and there are some areas where you need to maneuver... More

Absolutely beautiful lake. Nice boat ride around. You can also rent jet skis. There are food places around. Hard to get to but definitely worth it.

Having just been to Lake Atitlan I guess we were a little underwhelmed by this lake. It is beautiful for sure and worth a look but there are many more beautiful lakes on this planet. We were disappointed by how the lake is completely surrounded by private homes with no public access points that we could find other than hotels... More

This lake is a must-see on your trip to Central America. It is beautiful, deep, and mesmerizing. It is set in a massive, ancient caldera that must be seen to be believed. The water is clean, unlike other Central American lakes, so you can enjoy a swim or a ride on a jet ski. The biggest problem is that there... More
