As other reviewers have mentioned this is a great place to relax and unwind. There are lots of neat little places to eat, drink or hang out and enjoy the incredible scenery. It's definitely worth it to rent a boat tour and get out onto the lake. I even enjoyed the drive there, as it gives a small glimpse of... More

The water was clear and fresh. Boat dock was bit away from our place of lodging. Some planing is defiantly required before hand so as to not waste time and over stressing with tight spaces. The road going there is not maintained though and there are some areas where you need to maneuver to avoid other cars on the tight... More

After a very heavy day seeing images of death I finally found a place to unwind and relax. The water of this lake is clear and fresh. They have boats that you can hire if you want to sail. Restaurants also abound. The road going there is not maintained though and there are some areas where you need to maneuver... More

Absolutely beautiful lake. Nice boat ride around. You can also rent jet skis. There are food places around. Hard to get to but definitely worth it.

Having just been to Lake Atitlan I guess we were a little underwhelmed by this lake. It is beautiful for sure and worth a look but there are many more beautiful lakes on this planet. We were disappointed by how the lake is completely surrounded by private homes with no public access points that we could find other than hotels... More

This lake is in the caldera of an extinct volcano, consequently the setting is pretty dramatic. It's worth the short drive from San Salvador. Be sure to drive along the top ridge. I don't especially recommend going down to the lake...it's a long, windy, dusty road and the view is obstructed by high walls guarding private property.

This lake is in an ancient caldera, which makes a perfect setting with spectacular views. I loved the peace and tranquillity of it.

Its a beautiful, natural, breathtaking place that combined with a hike to de Santa Ana Volano (Volcan Illamatepec) should not be passed up while visiting El Salvador.

We went to the Lake Coatepeque for lunch and loved it. Beautiful outdoor seating. We had a couple of peaks facing the place where we had lunch. We saw people working on the road which will certainly help in terms of getting access to the place.
