Don't expect a Tikal or Copan...but Joya de Ceren is unique in its own way...and it's really the only archaeological site in El Salvador that is worth going out of the way to visit...I found it fascinating...it'll only take an hour to look around...Joya de Ceren and nearby San Andres ruins can be done in half a day pretty easily... Joya de Ceren is a park that is located about an hour away from San Salvador. It offers a chance to see a native (Mayan) village as it was before a volcano erupted and covered it in ash. I believe all inhabitants fled, but the houses were preserved for us to appreciate. The site is a UNESCO Heritage site, so... More

This site included a great museum with some amazing finds from the area. The Mayan homes and buildings were excellently preserved and I really learned a lot about everyday Mayan life. More

I enjoyed this site so much, since is the only site in Latin America where you can discover the every day life of the mayan culture, just to think that only the 3% of what there is, has been excavated yet, is amazing to think about what they will find when the rest is excavated, This is a site you... This site is not very impressive but is something to do if you're ever visiting the area. Don't expect to see any pyramids or temples at this site. There's only small parts of residential structures at the site to see. I would probably not go there again. More

This is a small museum that takes about 1 hour to tour. I wish that I had time to wait for a guided tour that takes you to the different houses within the property. It is interesting to see how this city used to exist ages ago! More

Just like this review. Boring. If you like archeology, ok you will find it interesting, but if you are between 8 to 30 years old, you will find this place boring. Now Chichen Itza, Mexico, that is an experience. More
