I think seeing a performance at the National Opera House during a visit is a must. The building itself is not particularly interesting, in comparison to the Odessa Opera House, and the inside is still not renewed. But the opera and ballet performances are great and many people perhaps do not know of the quality of the performances there. There... More

National Opera House of Ukraine in Kyiv was established in 1867, and is the third oldest in Ukraine, after Odessa Opera and Lviv Opera. It is well-known both as an architectural masterpiece and with its many talented singers - Larysa Rudenko, Elyzaveta Chavdar, Dmytro Hnatyuk, Mykola Vorvulev, Zoya Khrystych, Galyna Sholina, Valentina Lutchenko, Vasyl Tretiak, Mykola Kondratiuk, Volodymyr Tymokhin, Kostyantyn... Tried to by e-tickets but the e-ticket system was out of order. After some e-mails the friendly staff at the box office booked the ticket and hold it for me until right before the play. Even if Carmen is´t my favorite opera the evening was very pleasant and the performance top notch.

It is our travel tradition to attend an opera whenever possible. It was a treat to attend this evening's performance of Madam Butterfly. The acoustics are wonderful, it is medium size opera house with 5 balconies. The interior is beautiful but the seats in the balcony slope downward and it was a challenge not to slide.

Lucky enough to visit 3 times and see Romeo and Julet, Aida and Swan lake - the awe of being in such a beautiful opera House , and the ambience , very touching experience.

Went to see a Saturday night performance of the opera Iolanta (Tchaikovsky). What a fabulous evening. The building itself is worth the visit, both externally and internally. Totally informal dress code and ludicrously cheap for what was a fantastic night. There are performances of many famous operas and ballets every night of the week. If you are planning to spend... We were lucky to catch last performance in the season. The level is very good, if you have been in Vein Opera you will be not disappointed in Kiev Opera too.

A very fun evening if you have the time. It was my first opera and really enjoyed it. The building itself is amazing and very similar to the opera house in Phantom of the Opera.

the opera house is in the heart of the city. every day there is a representation and prices are ridiculously cheap compared to operas in the western world. it's also very democratic with attendees showing up in very casual clothes. the building interiors are incredible, spend time admiring the dome's volta in the opera hall. been there over 10 times.

The building itself deserves a visit due to its architecture and interior design. Acoustics are very good, as a result any performance is enjoyable - opera, symphony, ballet.
