Brought same day tickets on a whim and was shocked to find out they were under $5 USD - still have great seats and was able to enjoy a fantastic show. Would recommend for a great night out

We (a couple) had a chance to visit this opera house one October evening to watch "Le Corsaire." The building was much more memorable than the ballet that we watched. Above the entrance, we saw a huge head of famous Ukrainian poet and writer Taras Shevchenko. Inside, it was also beautiful and spacious with many balconies decorated in red and... More

we, personally, visit opera very often. so I really can advise to visit it during you stay Kiev. several tips: 1. all operas and ballet are in classical perfomans, i.e. decorations, costumes, dances are classical and correspond to original. 2. no strict dress code. well... it means that you will be able to come in jeans and sweater even to... I visited the opera house in February. I can recommend balet performance. I sam Carmen and Szeheresade. The level of performance was suberb. The opera house is impressive old style building. I can recommend "champagne " and caviar in bar ( about 10 euros for 2). My tip is that You can bargain a little about price of tickets in... More

This is a beautifully decorated opera house - relatively small. Performances are cheap (200 hryvnia for best tickets) but sung in eg Italian and surtitled in Russian, so english speakers should know the opera before they go !

They offering of plays is fantastic. You could go everyday for two weeks without repeating one. I went for Aida and had a great time. The artists are very good and the audience good as well.

We saw both a ballet (Raymonda) and an opera (Rigoletto) and we were positively surprised. We both the tickets at the opera house. We picked the best seats ( and most expensive, but yet cheap, 200 uah each). The opera house is a classic beauty. Both the ballet and the opera where in an old fashioned, classic style ( the... More

It is abolutely stunning how they are able to group together so may ballet and opera classics in this house. I stayed there for a week and they were showing Carmen, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake in a 7-day interval. I could see the Kiev Ballet and also the Virsky Ballet. They were perfect in execution from the beginning to... More

I booked a ballet performance sitting on first low and paid about USD18! It is a steal but the quality of production and dancers are of high class. I enjoyed it almost no less than at Bolshoi which costs 10x times more. It is probably the best valued opera venue, in a theatre so beautiful that in it self will... More

I saw a Ukrainian Opera there. Beautiful old wood building. Didn't understand a word but had a fantastic time. Cost was reasonable. I think seats upfront were around $25. They had solid brass numbered coat checks. If it wasn't sold cold I would have left the coat and kept the coat check.
