It's a real cathedral. It was re-built after complete destroying. You can feel real ambience of orthodox church inside. Note that this cathedral provided asylum to the people attacked by "Berkut" and militia during "Revolution of Dignity" in 2014-2015. Tip: don't forget to dress properly, it's a cathedral.

This Cathedral has been destroyed and rebuilt more than once. I believe, but am not certain, that the Germans did a pretty good job of wrecking it during WWII (the Great Patriotic War). Although it's not original, the buildings purport to follow the original structures. It is located on a hill and is proximate to both the InterContinental and Hyatt... More

Built in the Ukranian Baroque style, he original Cathedral and Monastery was destroyed during and after WWII, but it has been restored during the past 20 years ( largely through donations from Mafia bigwigs who want to buy their way into Heaven, I was told). The gold-leaf-covered domes are pear-shaped. rather than the onion-shape of Russian Orthodox churches. In some... More

St. Michael's Cathedral is very near to St Sophia's cathedral. It is as beautiful as St Sophia's. You will see renovation work going on at both the cathedrals. The colors are selective too. White and Green for Sophia's, White and Blue for Michael's is pretty amazing. I wish the renovation work be fast and both the cathedrals be just as... More

St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery The first documented reference about St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery occurs in the chronicles where it was said that on the 11th of July, 1106 near St. Demetrius’s Monastery and St. Peter’s Church the Prince Sviatopolk Iziaslavovich, the grandson of Yaroslav the Wise, began the construction of a new church dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel. Until... More

Gorgeous cathedral glistening in the sun, a 3 min walk from St. Sophia. If you are there can't be missed, but inside is rather forgetful

I never went inside but walked around outside, which was free. A beautiful blue and gold cathedral set in nice surroundings.
