Yes, Mikhailovsky Monastary is a reconstruction of the original building razed by Stallinat the time he was destroying the rest of Ukraine, but it's return is emblematic of the return of the eternal Ukrainian nation, made even more special by the Ukrainian Orthodox monks who gave protection to injured protestors during last year's Maidan revolution (which occurred just down the... I liked this one. It was really beautiful outside and inside! It's not far from Independence square either. Just a short walk.

The interior is as amazing as the exterior. I attended choir mass and it was so beautiful, it helped touch an inner peace.

there are many sites, which visits are better with local guide and this church is one of them. appears there are story behind it and also regarding buildings surrounding it. again, church has a nice interiors and to explore it, better to go in, when service is over.

To fully appreciate St. Michael's, it is worthwhile to visit the Museum located in the bell tower- you can enter through the gift shop on the left as you pass through the gate. There will you see the long and tragic history of this church, originally built in ancient Kyivan Rus times in 1108, brutally destroyed by Stalin in the... More

Even if you're not religious it's well worth seeing a service in this church; the music is beautiful, there is a real sense of community and warmth among the believers, and it's just a very genuine Christian Orthodox experience. Although the Church is covered in gold, it still retains a real element of humility; instead of parading a 5 tonne... More

St Michaels is at one end of a 2 cathedral street and is the amazing big brother of the two. I was there at Easter when the blessings and holy water are dispensed to all! Lighting candles inside and sensing the reverent nature of those requests and admiring the artistry and painting that cover all interior walls(because if an area... More

I'm really surprised by the good reviews as I didn't think St. Michael's Cathedral was anything special. It certainly wasn't spectacular & is very similar to the other cathedral's in Kiev. If you really like churches & cathedrals then you might enjoy it but otherwise don't bother.

If you like Cathedrals then whoopy do, if you're sick of Cathedrals then avoid. I've been to far too many Cathedrals to get excited about any, other than the truly amazing ones. Also, most of the other Cathedrals in the area are very similar.
