I recently watched the opera Carmen by Bizet, in the interpretation of the Bucharest National Opera soloists. A great show and very well staged. The building work has excellent acoustics and seating placement (stal, lodge and gallery) make the show can be watched in excellent conditions.

As an opera snob, I have to admit that Bucharest National Opera House is NOT one of those most beautiful opera houses in the world (imagine Vienna, La Scala, Budapest, Paris, Sydney...etc), NEITHER does it provide one of the world-class performances (as compared to the Met, Royal Opera House, Bayreuth..etc). However, I DO have to give credits to Bucharest National... More

Having in mind one is waching an Opera in a poor Balkan country, paying less than cinema ticket value in Berlin or Paris, makes thiw place, and over all the people workinh there much more valuable. They are very good. All Romanians should be very proud of having such an Institution in their Capital city!!!

I returned in March after a long period of time and I was pleasantly surprised - the place looks like new, is like stepping in a castle. Above the stage there is a digital screen where you can read the subtitle of the songs which is helpful especially for kids. The chairs are new, comfy, I totally recommend you to... More

A beautiful structure and world-class talent on stage. I saw a performance of the ballet & symphony orchestra and was able to purchase a ticket for a box near the stage for less than $15 U.S.

As a very important landmark in Bucharest, the National Opera House hosts each year various plays in a breathtaking opera hall. The acoustics is excellent, and you can hear clearly the play even if you have a seat at the balcony.

One of the most beautiful Opera Houses that I've seen - very close to other sites with easy access. The national orchestra was in rehearsals and it was a treat to hear them play.

Now that the exterior has been renovated, the Opera House is a complete masterpiece. Even if you don't have the time (or tickets) to witness a performance, the building is worth a visit. The interior decoration is rich and the space has the look of a 19th or early 20th century lyrical theatre, although it is more recently built. The... More

It is a litlle island of real culture and special entertainment in a town that misses it so much, great architecture but Bucharest deserves a bigger Opera House.

If it were not for my Phoenix/AZ-based friend who came to Bucharest for X-mas and was keen on how Romanian cultural life is going on, most probably I would have not go to see any Opera Nationala Bucuresti presentation over the winter. But what a pleasant surprise! A renovated/rehabilitated Opera House, some modern mise-en-scenes, beautiful voices. Actually we have seen... More
