Well preserved monastery with nice church in the center of the garden. Wall paint inside the church. Guided tour in Romanian is available. Good point if you are nearby.

Hurezi Monastery is one out of the 7 UNESCO sites in Romania. Located few kilometers away of Horezu town, it is an imposing monastery with a nice church flanked by tall walls. The Tower Gate is an historic monument; so is the old, little church (Saint Angels) located few hundred meters before the Monastery Gate, on the left hand, which... More

From what I've read, the monastery is built in a unique style that can be only attributed to the location. It's not the typical monastery with wooden roof and painted walls, quite the opposite, huge and white. It was intersting to visit, though we just walked around the grounds and I wasn't sure there was anything else to do there.... More

A very impressive working nunnery at the top of a sweeping cobblestone path. Walls are in good condition. The central church has the usual interior icon paintings which are beautifu with an unpainted exterior. The place is very peaceful and quiet. As you drive up, ignore the tourist goods stalls outside the outer wall and drive to the small parking... More

Came across this wonderful place on a field trip with my husband. Superb church. Check out the flue in the nunnery kitchen. An off the beaten track Unesco recording that is well worth seeing.

Horezu Monastery sits beyond the small village in a hilly setting with fruit trees and hay. The long cobblestone path takes the visitor upwards and out towards the fortified walls made with brick and stone (similar to the oldest church in Cortes de Arges). This monastery features intricate carved details in the stonework not seen in other monasteries. Definitely worth... More
