The museum seemed to be under construction when I went there, so take my review with a grain of salt. The museum was very small. Just two rooms. One with information on the land/soil of Moldova. The other room was a bit more interesting with a lot of the animals of the area, especially lots of birds. Worth a visit, but manage your expectations.

W always visit the Ethnographic museums when we travel, and this is one of the best. It is located in a beautifully restored building and the displays were really well done. If you see only one museum in Chisinau, I would recommend it be this one.

It is the oldest museum in the Republic of Moldova. Founded as an Agricultural Museum, during its existence it gradually expanded its field of activity, creating collections that reflect the natural history, the contemporary nature, the evolution of the human society and the traditional culture on the territory of Bessarabia and later of the Republic of Moldova.
It currently has a heritage of about 135 thousand pieces. It has created numerous exhibitions that have highlighted the animal and vegetable world, the natural wealth of the land, reflected the occupations of the population. Parts of museum collections were presented at various exhibitions organized in many countries in Europe, Asia, America and Africa.
The museum has a Temporary Exhibition Hall where various exhibitions are exhibited from both its own patrimony and other museums. Traditional handicrafts exhibitions of traditional craftsmen that are held every year have become traditional.
On the territory of the museum there is a Botanical Garden, which meets the most widespread species of plants, trees and shrubs on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. A Vivarium with permanent exhibitions of rare, exotic and decorative birds, reptiles and fish was organized within the Botanical Garden.
We had a book presentation and from the beginning we knew we needed a special place, so we came to choose the museum yard. The director of the museum, Mr. Vicol Petru was very kind and receptive to our demands, and accepted to be our host. It has been a very successful experience and it certainly remains one of our favorite places to organize events.

This place is on the same block as the Muzeul National de Etnografie - I think it is part of the same complex, but entrance is completely separate, so it is easy to miss. (I will attach a photo of the entrance to help you find it!)
There's an indoor section, with many smaller birds, and a large gardened area behind the main building whee they keep the larger birds. These include 4 huge emu's, and 4 peacocks at the time I visited, but there are plenty of others too, (such as some very colourful ducks).
You can get some food to give the fish, which kids might enjoy.
Some of the creatires are not that unusual (chickens?! Guinea pigs?!), but it is still well worth a visit. Particularly if you are in the area for the Muzeul National de Etnografie.

This was one of my favorite museums in Chisinau. The exhibits are great, and captivating. I enjoyed walking around and learning more about the culture and history of Moldova.

Just few blocks from the center. Nice building and outside area with An old windmill. All the old ladies in charge of the different rooms were very helpful

Because there is not much more to see. Interesting building. Nasty old man who forces you to follow "the path".

This lovely museum is a bit long in the tooth, but well worth a visit. It includes natural history, many stuffed animals and birds, and a wonderful collection of native Moldovan costumes. Some of the ‘guides’ are a bit pushy, but not to the extent of lessening my enjoyment of this special place.
