If I knew the language I would definitely arrange to watch a play in this impressive Theatre. The doors were closed when I dropped by, curious to see the interior at least! It is one of the most ornate buildings in Sofia, built in 1907 by the Austrian architects Helmer & Felner. (Austrian Neo-baroque style) Although the interior was destroyed... More

The theatre is a beautiful old building that dates back to the early 1900s. It's in the city center and you can find a Christmas Market a stones throw away in the City Garden across from the theatre. Worth some pictures in and around the old building.

I was staying in the Grand Hotel Sofia so walked past the theatre every day. The façade is gorgeous and the gardens are beautiful. All the performances are in Bulgarian and unfortunately you can't enter unless you have a ticket so I didn't see the inside but I understand it's also beautiful.

I was there in May with friends from Spain. It was so nice in spring! The park is very nice, the theatre, too and the fountains alsoo add some charm to this park. I would like to go there one day and see a theatre play in English(I know just a few words in Bulgarian). The theatre and park around... More

The neoclassical Ivan Vazov National Theater is a few minutes' walk from the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. With an edifice that faces the City Garden, this is Bulgaria's oldest and largest theater. The reddish-pink building's white and gold frieze features Apollo and the Muses, and the twin towers on either side of the building depict the Goddess Nike in a chariot.... More

One of my favourite buildings in Sofia. The fountains in front of it are great place to take some nice shots. The place tends to be filled with young people 24/7 & inside it, there are amazing plays being shown, sadly not many in English.

The building of the theater is very impressive and I consider it as a must for all tourists in Sofia. It has been renewed recently and is beautiful. In front there is a fountain, unfortunately it is not working all the time. Had the opportunity to visit it inside, about 2 years ago on the occasion of a congress of... More
