This UNESCO Heritage site is definitely worth visiting! Best thing to do is stay overnight in one of the monk's cells. Just go there in the morning/early afternoon and ask for a room in the reception area at the back of the monastery. The largest monastery in Bulgaria, Rila Monastery is very pretty. There are regular buses that travel from Rila up to the Monastery, located 27 km away. The church has beautiful iconic art and visitors have the option of spending the night there. more
