A tip for all those out there who have had the same problems as me finding out how to get to Rila Monastery without going on an organised tour. Take tram 5 from behind the Court of Justice in Sofia - 11 stops to Ovcha Kupel bus station. At 1020hrs a bus leaves for Rila village, it arrives at approximately... more

A "must see" for any trip to Bulgaria is the Rila Monastery. The largest monastery in Bulgaria, Rila Monastery is very pretty. There are regular buses that travel from Rila up to the Monastery, located 27 km away. The church has beautiful iconic art and visitors have the option of spending the night there. more
