The National Museum has been closed for quite a while now, due to the inability/unwillingness of the government to support it. This unfortunately seems to be another piece of evidence of the indifference and greediness rife in the whole political system.

Several Bosnians we spoke with were very critical that the government wasn't able to keep the national museum open for budgetary reasons. Luckily the history museum across the street was open and very interesting.

Closed indefinitely. There is not really anywhere that you can discover the history of Sarajevo and Bosnia due to it all being shut down which is extremely sad and disappointing.

The place was closed downwhen I wished to visit in october 2012. Seems it has been closed for some time and there is no sign of it opening anytime soon again. When a country cannot find funds to look after its heritage, you know the place has gone to the dogs...

I was born in Bosnia, at very young age I left for USA. I ve returned only twice since I left the Balkan Peninsula. I had an opportunity to visit this eye-opening museum. I remember crying the whole time I was there, mostly because I had a moment that made me feel incredibly proud of where I come from. This... More

Due to economic problems in this country, this museum is closed until further notice. It's a real pity because it's a lovely museum inside. Hopefully in the future it will be open again.

I visited the museum because I heard it is great place to see and also they want to close it. I hope not. Very important institution with historical exhibits showing Bosnian rich history. It has beautiful back gardens. The entry fee is only 5 KM which is €2.5 and it is well worth it.

The setting and garden in the center are worth seeing, but the rest is a little off. There was one wing and the entire thing had nothing but a skeleton in it...a little odd.

Another great museum in Sarajevo. All sorts of great things for all to see. I spent 2 hours in here just taking it all in. There is so much history in Bosnia and Herzegovina and this gives you a great insight into that.

Great history of the area from Roman times plus natural history - very musty and mouldy so watch your breathing
