Oh, Sarajevo.. How smoothly you blur geographical lines with your audible mosque prayers, beautiful catholic churches, bounty of European shops, and Turkish tradition. If you ever find Sarajevo gracing your trip abroad, go to Stari Grad! It's the quaint, cobble-stoned, little center where many cafes thrive with both locals and visitors, and where all the copper workers of the town... More

Lots of reconstruction. Everyone got a face lift after the intense bombing but it is done so well . I really liked to stroll around the old city.

A lovely old town with landmark fountain, mosque and Turkish shops. Main drawback was there was only ONE non-smoking restaurant/bar (in what must surely rank as the smoking capital of the world): Cevabdzinica, a fairly small place (great salads!) very close to the line on the main pedestrian street, just by the main entrance to the rather lovely indoor market/bazaar... I am visiting Sarajevo since my childhood and every time I am there I go to Baščaršija and wonder through the narrow streets. It is a mix between the timelines, the old crafts in small shops all around and you somehow go in to the past and enjoy this experience. All around there are people that shop, eat some Bosninan... The old town or Turkish part of Sarajevo is a plethora of small gift shops and restaurants mixed in among the mosque and churches. It is a safe and pleasant area to walk around even in the evening.

This old town is very unique. I just loved it! After seeing so many old towns all over Europe I was pleased to see that this one is a bit different then all of them. It doesn’t feel so European but rather more like Turkey or an Arab state. As a single women traveler i felt very safe here on... More

I think this place is unique. It has all the charm of the souk but with none of the hassle. Not once did someone come out of the shop and try to sell me anything I didn't want. But you can buy all the amazing metalware, silver, textiles etc.

I spent a couple of days wandering around the old town. There is an interesting mix of shops and restaurants as well as some historic buildings.
