You can read about him if you look up George Castriot, Gjergj Kastrioti, Skënderbeu or İskender Bey. He was a homegrown, Ottoman trained, rebel military leader whose skill blocked Ottoman expansion in the 1400s. He represents Christian resistance against the Ottoman Muslims, not unlike the Romanian Vlad Țepeș (Dracula).

The monument was made of bronze and has a very nice tiny details even the face was done very good. This monument deserves to give name to the square.

With diplomatic recognition in every part of Western Europe, he got little help that you would call "in time". He is an example of hill people who never forget hearth and home regardless of training or opportunity. Not mythological, rare at the same time common, a real person with qualities worth imitation...not a hollow statue.

With brilliant colorful buildings around and snow cap mountains in the distance my visit to see Albania famed nobleman was spectacular. You will have to navigate a busy traffic circle for a close up view but it's worth it.

apparently he was what every strong Albanian likes to be today, a good father and a strong fighter. He is famous and the statute survived many revolutions.

Those who step on to Albanian soils cannot avoid Skanderbeg. The man was and still remains one of the most influential people in Albanian history and that is why a massive and impressive sculpture has been placed in his honour right in the heart of Tirana, Albanian capital. It truly stands in the core of the city and almost everything... More

This is hearth and center of Tirane. Means a lot for Albanians. There was a nice decoration in front for holidays in December so we used it as a spot for couple of memorial pictures of our trip in Albania

Right in the centre of the Skanderberg square surrounded by the clock tower, Opera, Museum, Municipality, couple of Ministry offices and Art Gallery. Its in front and to one side of the Tirana International Hotel (tall building). Nice lawn around. Take a couple of photos and walk around the square- almost everything worth seeing is around here.

Just like Mother Theresa, most counties in the Balkans claim Skanderbeg, (and you will see the same statue from Kosovo and several other surrounding countries). Tirana's statue is in Skanderbeg Square, which is near the Clock Tower and the National History Museum in the city center. It is worth a picture.

A hero to Albanians. It's in an easy location too find. A nice stroll pass with some photos is easily done! Just needs a path in front of it so don't stand on the grass.
