Came by on an early Sunday afternoon and there was a market set up here. They sold mostly clothes and such but it was nice to stroll around and see what they had, even ended up buying a few things. Also, there was a juggler/entertainer that had a pretty big crowd watching and was really good. We enjoyed our afternoon... More

This is a lovely park area with fairly short wandering pathways, a lovely (greenish) pond with an islet in the center, and beautiful trees. Serene on a weekday, when there are only small groups of people and no litter. Just a lovely place to sit and contemplate. Another time, perhaps, we'd explore more of it, and maybe for the Sunday... This is a very pretty park just off of La Rambla, across the street from Playa Ramirez and near the Teatro del Verano. The park (actually 4 different parks all together - depending on what map you look at) is divided by Avenida Sarmiento. The northern part includes the Feria del Parque Rodo (Sundays), the Castillo (children's library with story... More

This was a great day! I enjoyed just walking around and observing how the locals enjoy themselves on a Sunday afternoon. There are art exhibits, fountains, paddle boats, and tango dancing in the music pavilion. I even made a friend, who shared mate' with me, as well as pan frio (?) fried bread. The public restroom was weird! But I needed... More

but nothing special. The city has many green areas, this is one if not the most important, but sadly in 2014 it seems that urban life does not care for those great assets anymore. the shopping malls are the new symbols of some social life. Sad.

In regards of general information about the park and the sorrounding area, Casasarandi´s review is very complete, but in regards to the present conditions and environment I agree 100% with Oldtravelinggolfer comments. The geographic location of the park is excellent, but unfortunatelly the city officials and the people in general do not take care of their parks, historical buildings, etc.

An older park near the rambla. It can be called 'quaint'. There is a farmer's market on Sundays. The park can get quite crowded and is recommended that you don't go at night. It is a shame to see the number of parks in Montevideo that are just not getting the care they need. A lot of broken things, park is... More

The charming park is named after a famous Uruguayan writer whose monument is one of many in the park – look out for Confucious' overlooking the beach and Neptune next to a stream. Stroll the park during the day with hundreds of mate-drinking locals. Hire a pedalo and paddle around the tiny lake. The waterside funfair (juegos mecanicos) is a... More
