We went there just to take a look and found out there would be a free concert. It was worth the waiting! Great quality music - Clara and Thierry - and organized and courteous staff. The building is also very pretty and well maintained.

This is lovely building to visit, but unfortunately the nearby area is quite dangerous particularly the main square at night. So try covering bag and purses and try to go in a group.

We were lucky that our visit had an open evening and the theater was across the plaza from the Radisson Hotel. We were able to purchase 3rd balcony seats for about $10 US, this was about 40 feet from stage front and 20 feet high. The performance was just great. If you are like me, the orchestra seats are OK but... More

It's a must see when visiting Montevideo. Amazing architecture very well preserved. One of the most important pieces of art and history in Montevideo. It also has a small nice cafe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Just be aware it closes at 4PM.

Montevideo is a beautiful, not very preserved, city. I had only one day to enjoy the town and was very excited to see the theatre. Although staff informed there would be a tour at 4pm ( it was like 3:50pm), when I went to buy the tickets I was informed the tour was cancelled. The staff, specially a girl called... More

The Teatro (Theatre) Solis was a landmark that I couldn't miss during my three week stay in Ciudad Vieja Montevideo. It is located opposite of Plaza Independencia. They have classical concerts, plays, musicals. They also offer a Saturday Afternoon Tango sessions for free with limited seating. Teatro Solis is the main landmark in Montevideo. Many restaurants and cafes are also... More
