Beautiful theater, which construction was inspired by the Scalla Theater in Milan. They have tours to visit the premises; although a bit short, they are very informative and are offered in several languages, such as English, Portuguese, French and Spanish, of course. It's worth seeing te grandeur of Montevideo's old times!

In a somewhat weird way, and despite this being a key attraction on town, they make it incredibly difficult to get in. They take no credit cards, no foreign currency though its all foreigners waiting to go on the tour that's only in Spanish. So if you're off a boat, they advise you to go across the street, to an... We visited this Theatre on Wednesday and it was free on that day. Not sure if it is free every Wednesday. Most fees here in Uruguay are very cheap so I would not worry to much. We had two young guides who where very friendly and where excellent guides. They explained everything very well from the design to the actual... More

Took a last minute tour here. My Spanish isn't great but it was cheaper so I went for it. Fabulous space (though doesn't touch its counterpart in Buenos Aires) and an eager tour guide.

Unfortunately not when we were there but worth researching if you are coming to Montevideo. Impressive interior and exterior.

This is a breathtaking building and decorated in a French style ... or so I think. I managed to see a play in Spanish and it was quite an experience

While visiting Montevideo a visit to the teatro Solis is a must. You can take a guided tour ofcourse, but the best thing you can do is visit a concert or a ballet. You will be surprised at the low cost of the performances. They Have a very good coffee shop/restaurant, take your time for a latte macchiata with a... More

I was lucky to hear a Candombe-Jazz Quartet here one night and it was excellent and very well priced for a last minute ticket -- about $20 for high quality Latin jazz. This theater is gorgeous and the acoustics are great. Caruso and Bernhardt both performed here.
