We climbed Huayna Picchu earlier this month. It's low/rainy season, and when we arrived it was raining- it cleared up by the time we climbed, around 9 am. We didn't ask to climb until just before going up, but there wasn't a wait or anything. I think we were 200-something. It's about an hour of vertical climbing, up stairs that... more

I went to Peru in September 2009 and stayed for 8 days. We made our way from Lima to Cusco by plane and we took a train to Aguas Calientes. From there we took the bus up to Machu Picchu. We got up around 430 am and there was a pretty big line for the buses so i suggest if... more

Huayna/Wayna Picchu was the coolest thing I did during my 11 days in PERU! Seeing Machu Picchu itself was more than spectacular. I highly recommend reserving two days here as we did. Staying in Aguas Calientes, which is a very neat town at the base of the mountain, allowed us to get up early and go up a second day.... more

I'll preface this with an intro to my fellow Huayna (Wayna) Pichhu trekkers: - A grumpy hubby (who did not want any more early am wake up calls). - A couple (22 y/o and 35 y/o) which the GF did not want to wake up either. - A 7 year old - yup a 7 year old girl, who is... more

Climbing the nose of Machu Picchu is certainly a great experience but that in itself is hampered by the difficulties of being one of the first 400 people in line. I went on July 28 and was in line for the bus at 3:55am and was about the 20th person in line. In no time at all there were hundrends... more

We were lucky enough to have a day and a half at Machu Picchu - we did the main ruins on the first day with our guide which was brillant and then got up at 4 am the following morning to climb Huayna Picchu - I thought 4 am was a little excessive but by the time we had had... more

The biggest downside of climbing Huayna Picchu is the time you lose exploring one of the great wonders of human creation, Machu Picchu. If you only have one day for your entire visit, spending two hours climbing and descending the peak might seem a bit like time wasted, especially if you don't have time for the side trips on Huayna... more

The view from the top makes waking up early and the strenuous hike completely worthwhile. We were in line for the bus at 4:40 AM and managed to get on the 3rd bus. We got held up getting through the Machu Picchu ticket gate because the ticket guy said my backpack was too large. It's a relatively small northface backpack,... more

One of the most famous spots in the whole world. Being in Machu Picchu and not doing the 45-60 minutes hike to the top of the Huayna Picchu? Don't even think about it if you have time and are in good shape to do it. more

Hi fellow travelers. The photos that are attached give you a view over the Inca civilization saddled between Macchu Pichu (Old Mountain) and Wayna Pichu (Young Mountain). We took a bus from Aguas Calientes (think base camp) to Macchu Pichu up a series of treacherous switchbacks that scaled approximately 7,300 ft or more. The mountain pictured is Wayna Pichu, which... more
