These ruins are definitely worth the extra 15 minutes walking even if you have already been walking 8 hours that day battling with altitude sickness! Winawayna is very well preserved and really gives you a feel of what amazing architects the incas were. I would have to say part of me rates this site higher than Machu Picchu as visiting... More

Hiked through the ruins on the way to Machu Picchu. I wonder how it would be to live in a place like that? What would it feel like to wake up every day and see the mountain across the canyon? Right there. More

Did the one day Inca Trail and passed thru Winawayna on the way to Machu Picchu. I was quite surprised at the size of it and how nicely restored it was. Certainly not Machu Picchu, but beautiful in its own right and a lot less people. Loved it and loved the one day Inca trail hike. More

On the walk from k104 to Machu Picchu, a wonderful Inca Settlement. Very few visitors, so the experience can be enjoyed in peace. Possible to savour the atmoshere of this amazing place. Views simply stunning. Time to enjoy the extraordinary feat of design and construction and to wonder about what kind of people the Incas were. So worth the effort... More

Winay Wayna ("forever young" in Quechua) is an Incan ruins site along the Inca Trail, about 2 hours from the Sun Gate. You can't really visit here without a permit and a guide, as it is along the Inca Trail. Some people may do it, since you would reach it from Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, and hit it... More

We arrived at Winaywayna as our last stop while hiking the Inca Trail before making our final ascent up purgatory to the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu, and the ruins were fabulous. Nowhere NEAR as crowded as Machu itself and gorgeously restored, we easily spent 30-45 minutes exploring the site... with some great photo opportunities on the unique backwards terraces... More
