Haku tours offers fantastic, English speaking guides with tours that take you to places to help you learn more about real Peruvian life, including life in the Shanty towns. I took a full day tour with them to a Shanty town in the morning where we toured the local market and walked up the hill and met people who lived... More

My husband and I love to cook, so when we realized we had almost a 12 hour layover in Lima on our return home from hiking the Inca Trail and visiting Machu Picchu we decided to find a cooking class. We were so glad we found Haku Tours. We made several classic Peruvian fish dishes including ceviche after visiting the... More

My family just returned from a two week visit to Peru. The three tours we did with Haku were without a doubt some of the highlights. We spent the day in Paracus and the Ballestas Islands, then an evening with the Magic Water Foundations and then an afternoon in Barranco. All the tours were so well run and informative. Our... More

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour and were extremely happy with our guide Edwin. Edwin's knowledge of Lima and the shanty town was excellent. I feel that we were able to get the real truth about Lima from Edwin and the tour. This tour is a real eye opener and the people of the shanty towns are truly... More

I wish I'd hooked up with Haka Toursnot just for Shantytown and Pachacámac but also for my Caral Tour as well, I know they would've been better than the "guide" I went with there. A 3 to 1, or 2 to 1, Guide to Client ratio is fantastic. I had 3 to 1 in the morning at Shantytown with Jose... More

We had four days in Lima. While there, I decided to visit the 5,000 year old ruins at Caral. I hoped to do it the next day. Haku Tours had the most reasonable price by far. What's more, I contacted them at 8 PM and they were kind enough to arrange a Caral tour for us starting at 7 AM... More

We hit the jackpot for our tour, with both Jose and Edwin there to educate, narrate and entertain us with their passion and knowledge. We started with the Shantytown tour, walking from a food market up to the homes of some the poorest inhabitants, meeting people and seeing the effects of the good work that Haku Tours does- building food... This is a very belated review. I spent 2 nights in Lima in November of 2012, and as a woman traveling solo to South America for the first time, I was a tiny bit anxious about roaming around the city alone, so I sought out tours to fill my time in Lima. I am SO GLAD that I found Haku... More

We agree with others' reviews--this is a memorable and moving trip, led by folks who obviously care deeply about the community they are sharing with you. They don't sugarcoat but they also don't stir up pity--they convey a sense of people who are struggling profoundly but also resilient and dignified. A trip like this is very difficult to do well,...
