Why you should visit: (1) Architecture (2) People watching (3) Great for photography (street scenes, colorful & charming, architecture) (4) Shopping for souvenirs Why you shouldn't visit: (1) Crowded (2) A bit far to get there if you stay in Miraflores

Aside from the Hotel Bolivar and the Plaza San Martin, this area struck us as a little seedy. Taxi ride to get there from Restaurante La Mar took an hour in horribly congested traffic. After walking up pedestrian shopping street (not so great retail establishments on either side) from San Martin to the Plaza de Armas, we took a taxi... More

I spent a day visiting the Historic Center of Lima. I saw perhaps 2/3 of the sites I was interested in and could have easily seen more without being rushed...I just chose a relaxed wander. I began at the Plaza de Armas. I used the combination ticket to visit the Archbishop's Palace and Cathedral, exiting in time to catch the... More

Most tourist stay in Miraflores and other modern parts of Lima, which is probably a good idea because that's where all the amazing and world-class restaurants are. But do visit the old colonial core, which is a UNESCO heritage site and it is stunning, clean, safe, and with a lot to see. Lima not only has colonial buildings, characterised by... More

It will be a good trip-visit for you. Great photo chances. Impressive buildings, Catholic & government, stately to a sin, looking a tad grey & depressive @ times, but …. Lots of find food, do not be afraid to eat at sidewalk carts or small restaurants. You can take the Metro cheaper, but I find a taxi better. Only a... More

We walked through this area. It is impressive with the president's residence smack dab in the middle. I think, if I return, I will go on a tour of the area with a guide. It's difficult to know what is worth stopping at and we missed a lot. There was a lot of police/security/watch dogs around so it can be... More
