The downtown Historic Centre of Lima is beautiful. It didn't use to be that well kept years ago. Downtown Historic Lima is now well kept, illuminated at night, and has many sites that are now been improved for the benefit of tourism. Definitely take an organized TOUR to this part of Lima, otherwise you might get lost and go to... More

Took a tour here. Like many historic centers in south and central America, but worth the visit. It was part of a tour I took w OAT. City tours probably include it.

Not worth it, you will be stuck in traffic at least an hour to get here. Yet once you arrive it is dirty and in bad shape not well conserved. If you make it to the main plaza by the river there will be people on the street singing every half a mile, too crowded, and dirty. I have visited... More

The historic center of Lima is nothing spectacular, but can you really visit a city without seeing its center? Take a city tour, and then spend the rest of your time in Miraflores.

Visits to the historic center of Lima is always interesting, with it's many beautiful churches and other buildings. This time became special, as we got a guided tour of the presidential palace with lot's of extra information. And refreshing the knowledge about the Catholic inquisition having one of its headquarters in Lima for hundreds of years added good historical background!

We took a taxi to the area from Miraflores, then did the self guided walking tour as described in the Lonely Planet guide. It was interesting, and we could go at our own pace and skip the stuff that didn't appeal to us.

Lots of churches, government buildings, museums and homes to visit within a short distance. Always something going on for visitors to see and the area feels as safe as any large city.

We did this ourselves without an organised tour and felt we were able to pace it better and focus on our interests rather than on group needs. The area has so much of interest and definitely worth a priority visit to see the grandeur, architectural highlights and history.

The old town of Lima is worth a visit. It's buildings are magnificent and there is lots to see for the Italian art lover. Also lots of different churches in the centre. Don't miss the old cafe from 1905 which is still in it's original glory.
