The hostel I stayed at offered a free historic centre tour for about 2 hours. We could visit the main plazas, the cathedrals, the library, see the historic and well-preserved balconies, learn some fun facts about the area and the tour guide even gave us some tips on where to eat, drink and make the most out of our stay... I was able to visit the historic center of Lima and view the amazing architecture of the period buildings and the fountain in the center of Lima. At this time there was also a contest going on with many groups dressed in costumes and dancing with small bands in the circle. They would parade around the circle and be judged... More

The buildings surrounding the centre square in Lima Peru are fabulous. In amazing condition for their age. Really well maintained. Suggest spending some time in the square enjoying the ambiance watching an assorted array of Peruvians enjoying their day or night. The palace is an impressive building as well as the Archibishop's house plus lots of other significant and historic... More

I wasn't impress by the surrounding, the buldings or the restaurants.. I made my visit shorter, going back to Barranco.

We stood in the middle of the square listening to our guide narrate the history of Lima and Peru. The changing of the guard at the presidential palace was very good. The band was great.

A Saturday morning in the historic centre can certainly be a great way to get to see the city, plenty of people doing their shopping, going to see the historc buildings, and it is nice and clean. In every bnlock there is a building or an historic landmark to stop and see.

You can thank me later, but if you go take your time. The traffic is heavy, the people is always crowding all the places, but you will walk thru history! The museums are great (and free or almost free), there is something to learn on every corner! Take your camera with you and prepare yourself!!

There is a nice walking circuit suggested in Lonely planet, you can do it on your own. Centre of LIma is gorgeous, churches, balconies, facades...You can do it quick but OK in 2 hours, maximum 4 hours going in every church you can think of

We did a two hour private tour of the Historic district or what the locals call "downtown ". So much of the history and the people of Lima is here. On a Sunday's we got to see traditionly dressed dancers and musicians in the main square. The area is full of local families out to spend the day together. The... More

WE liked the athmosphere, the people around us, there were some beautiful and interesting buildings. We liked the wooden balconies of many old buildings and the old cafes.
