The historical centre of Lima is very different from miraflores and is a great place to spend the day wandering around taking in different architecture. Lots of the best attractions in Lima are in the historical area and are all close to each other- you don't need a guide to show you around! Instead pick up guides at the attractions... More

The historical center includes the Plaza de Armas and Plaza Sam Martin. It is the old downtown of the city, where the major sites are, among them, the Government Palace, the Cathedral, Archbishop's Palace, San Francisco Church and some other churches and museums. It is impressive colonial Lima but has seen better days. The area is a bit gritty but... More

As beautiful as the pictures. Lovely cafes all around. Lots of English signs to get around. There will be many locals asking you to take pictures with them. Although they expect to be paid, just remember this little amount of money means nothing much to you but a lot to them!

After spending most of my time in Barranco, Miraflores and San Isidro, this part of the city was a great disappointment. It lacks character. You expect the historic buildings to offer charm and cultural insight, but they're dirty and run-down. I felt a bit unsafe here at night. The market is a cultural experience. China Town was disappointing--very small in... More

The Historic Centre is a mixed bag. Full of history, but we were warned it can be dicey. We didn't experience that at all, but be prepared to have trinkets offered for sale. (Not a problem as the people are kind and didn't pester. A friendly "no thank you" did the job.) A must see for sure.

Arid city next to the ocean. Lima's trees have to be washed to clean the dust and soot off them because almost no rain to wash them. Most buildings are also coated with dirt. The colonial architecture is hard to get excited about after 500 years of same old. The new water park is an enjoyable evening excursion. Laser light... More

Cleanest historic center I have ever been to! People do not stop cleaning this area! Security is everywhere. I feel very safe! People in general are friendly and respectful! The main plaza by the fountain is very charming and romantic!
