Possibly the most beautiful church in Arequipa along with the Cathedral. Go here if you like architecture.

It’s smaller than Aramas, but just as beautiful in its own way. We came here on a Sunday, and we could see people inside the door of the church singing hyms and people selling fairy floss and ice cream outside. Off to one side we found Argentinian hippies mixed in with the local vendors sell their wares on the steps... More

We really didn't see much of the church except from above, but we did get to see some of the really old parts of the Monastery. Our guide was a lovely young lady who had some English and managed to give us a lot of information about the history of the place and the people who lived here. San Franciso... More

Very quiet and enjoyable! Nice to take some pictures, get warm by the sunlight and rest... On the narrow street on the left side, there is some handcraft stores!

We had the luck of being in the plaza as a parade was getting ready to march for the Señora de los milagros. There was a group from Puno as well as many others, dressed in national dress and all looking very happy and proud to be in the procession. What a gift for us. The church, itself, was secondary... Crazy how you can see the snowy Volcanos sitting on a bench, in the sun with flower-trees all around you! Loved sitting there and watching all the people coming by!

One would easily past by this church and simply disregard it as being "typically beautiful" and move on. However make note of its architectural formation. There are 2 churches in ONE plaza. The reason: in precolonial times the largest church was designed for the aristocrats of the time, whereas the smaller church was reserved for the help. TODAY this tradition... More

We were so lucky to be here during holy week. We were able to see a procession with many Arequipans participating. It was amazing to see, candles, statues, choir, prayer. Loved it.
