Favorite church in Arequipa

Of the many churches in Arequipa, this was my favorite. Check out also the street vendor that congregate close to the monastery walls selling handicrafts.

All restaurants, pubs etc are all catered for tourist so the prices are tourists too! I really love walking around here though as it's a different ambiance compared to different areas of Arequipa.

It is amazing how accessible the historical religious artefacts and items are in Arequipa. The monastery of San Fransciso has some wonderful artworks and general religious paraphernalia, including robes and liturgical items. This venue allows access to the church and the the surronding rooms and gardens all for 5 sols which includes an English speaking guide. Well worth the visit.

If you get a good guide this is a beautiful sanctuary to walk through and learn more of the history of Peru.

we were walking by and decided to go in. You must take a tour guide. But that's actually quite useful in this place. Lots of very old art from Cusco, a history work understanding and a very knowledgable guide..... A nice upstairs terrace with view to the volcanoes... Worth the 5 soles!

The San Francisco Church and Monastery are over 400 years old, and there is a trememndous amount of history within the walls. My husband and I never expected that such a small, modest church (from the outside) would have beautiful gold ornamentation inside. This church is certainly worh a visit, especially if you have 1-2 hours free while you are... More

We happened to visit on the day of Santa Cecilia, patron of musicians, which gave us a very unique experience. The monastery itself was interesting and provided the opportunity for good photography with the Misti as background. Rosanna, Sydney Australia

The San Francisco Monestery has only recently been open to the public. It has decades and decades of history imbedded into its stone work and vistas. There are stories that we can only speculate about. Immerse yourself into the lives of the people that lived here for centuries.

This church is open longer hours so it is the church used most often by the locals and it truly is beautiful inside. Well worth the visit.
