We did the 1 day tour of Colca Canyon as we were quite short on time. This means there is no walking, mostly just being in the bus all day. I would probably recommend doing the 2 day tour if there is time. We very much enjoyed our day to Colca Canyon, however it is a very early start (3am)... More

Since we weren't able to hike (injury) we could have done the canyon in one day - drive to Cabanaconde and back to Arequipa would make a long day but is possible. The vicunas were the highlight of the trip.

Beautiful place, if anyone is remotely thinking about doing this they should go for it! We did the 2 day hike, which I think was a perfect amount of time to do it in. We booked the tour with Peru Schweiz and had Omar as our guide. I couldn't recommend him enough, he was very knowledgeable and approachable!

So after seeing the Grand Canyon, this is disappointing. But the condors and the surrounding area make the trip worth it. Plus if you do go, stay at the Colca Lodge, the natural hot tubs are a delight. The drive to the canyon is quite interesting, going thru a lot of different climate zones. The condor lookout is best at... More

A trek definitely worth doing if you are passing through Arequipa. Plenty of cheap options for tour operators, shop around before deciding. I did the trek in two days, you could easily take three or four if you have time and want to absorb the scenery. Hike wasn't too challenging on the way down, little tough on the knees. Actually... We went to the Canyon before, this time we went on the two day one night tour with Colca Trek. What a different experience! A well informed guide, several stops along the way for an opportunity to explore the countryside. Hotel close to the Canyon, opportunity to walk along the edge of the Canyon on the way to the Condor... More

The journey from Arequipa to Chivay and on to the Colca Canyon is breathtaking, the views of the high Andes with it's smoking volcanoes, and the herds of grazing llamas and alpaca are are worth the long journey. But don't forget the altitude, the viewing point at Mirador de los Andes on the Patapampa Pass is at 4,850m (some 16,000feet),... More

Colca Canyon is just amazing. However, don't kid yourself - the hiking is challenging. The walls of the canyon are around 1000m in elevation and if you decide to do a 3-4 day trip you will walk up and back down this elevation twice. Having said that, if you have a moderate-good level of fitness you will find the trek... More

Did a 2 night, 3 day trek with Peru Schweiz Explorer. We book via our hostel but you can also book direct with the company. We were part of a group of 6 with a fantastic, fun, and energetic guide called Omar. The only disappointing thing was the breakfast on the first morning. It could have been more substantial considering... More
