We did a 2 day trek: mirador de San Miguel down to Sangalle oasis the first day, then Sangalle up to Cabanaconde. We booked transport, meals, room and guide with an agency because we were a bit tight on schedule and it is cheaper than booking everything on your own. They stop at Cruz del Condor, pick you at the... More

Colca Canyon is beautiful. I would recommend that anyone who visits Arequipa do a tour or a trek of the canyon. However if you book a trek through the canyon and are not an experienced trekker, choose the 3 day trek, because the way down into the canyon is quite steep. If you ever come across a guide named Nestor,... More

We took the 3 day 2 night package to trek through the canyon. Breath taking scenery. At 53 & 61 years old it was very strenuous, the last day in particular, which is a 1000meter climb for 5 Kms up out of the canyon. U can take a mule for 60 sol which although I felt a huge sense of... More

It is located in Chivay's main plaza next to the church. DO NOT ever book anything with this company. We booked a condor tour with them, it was supposed to be a 6am pick up finishing at 11.30-noon, but no one showed till a hour later, and that was after repeated calls to their office. Then the bus took us... More

Watching the Andean condors soar at Cruz del Condor is one of my favorite memories from Peru. The condors seemed oblivious to us--first flying below our level, then above and occasionally at our level. Hearing the wind displaced by the condors' wings was the "icing on the cake". We could have easily stayed longer than the hour that we were... More

We started out 3 days track in Cabanaconde. We left our hostel around 9am first day and started to descend through beautiful green mountains down to Colca river. It was around 2.5h walk until we reached the bridge over the river. However we didn't take the bridge, because we wanted to see natural geyser which lays just a little more... More

Colca Canyon is a magnificent gorge in the western Andes. The best place to stay is Chivay. WIthin Colca there is a viewpoint, the Cruz del Condor. To get there you need to leave early, to get there before 8. The Condors roost on the cliffs and when the day warms up they beging flying along the cliffs before gaining... More

I've been there end of March. We arrived in Arequipa the day before the hike and searched for an agency to book the tour. Pay attention as the prices can be significantly negotiated. We paid 95 soles for a 2 day trekking tour. price included: 2 breakfasts, 1 lunch, 1 dinner, 1 night at Oasis Paraiso Colca, the bus and... More

Quite some tourists, but on the positive side I did not expect to see so many condors there that I did. It was amazing.

It appears most tours to the actual Colca Canyon are limited to Colca Valley 90% tourism with some views of the deeper canyon thrown in, like the Cruz De Condor mirador. If you want more of the outstanding canyon when considering tours check the itineraries very carefully. The canyon further down closer to Cabaconde must be more brilliant than that... More
