Another amazing Peruvian experience. Just when Peru could not offer another amazing day, there was Colca Canyon.

1000 people waiting from early morning (06:00) to see the condor's flights..that will start about 08:15..and the view of this huge birl above your head is amazing..they start to "climb" the mountain and their wings almost touch the sides of the mountain.. .after you can continue for campanaconde that have a marvellous oasis...its really amazing.

Although wider and deeper than the Grand Canyon it doesn't have the same wow factor for me and it requires a bit of effort. The bus trip from either Arequipa or PUNO is long and you need to travel over a pass over 16000 feet high so you need some altitude acclimatizing before the trip. There is no doubt the... More

Make sure you take in Condor's Cross - where the condors soar for hours... Their wingspans vary from the juvenile's 8 ft. to the adult's 10 to 15 feet. Quite amazing to see!

Back from a selfguided tour (2 weeks with rental bikes from Peru Motors, Arequipa) this evaluation should help people who intend to make similar trips with Peru Motors. We booked two bikes not cheap (100-150 USD each per day) and accomodation in one package. Accomodation was ok, mostly mid class hotels. Evaluation of the Motorbikes (BMW, new model GS 650F)... More

Definitely my favourite hike in Peru. We did the two day trip and it was amazing! Saw giant condors on the way down and the huts at the bottom where we stayed were really pretty.

It's a long day trip from Arequipa, but seeing the condors cruising the thermals as they leave the canyon to hunt their food was worth the early start. There are many other interesting things to see as well in the canyon, the only negative point being locals that capture eagles to use for photos. This exploitation of these endangered birds... More

We did the 2d/1n trek, and in hindsight I'm happy we did. The trek is great, but we never really had the feeling you're in a canyon. It looks more like a valley, we were expecting steeper cliffs like the Grand Canyon. Nevertheless it's a great trek. We had a fairly fit group (all < 35) and got to the... More

This canyon is too big to be described. The road doesn't really go along the edge like the grand canyon. It is down inside and the canyon is still so deep that it is hard to see the river at the bottom. And yet, it is possible to old terraces all along the way. People have been living here for... More

This trip was easy to go independently. We rented a car (4wd, although it wasn't really necessary to have) in Arequipa and spent one day driving out there, although the drive itself only took about 4 hours. The high altitude can be a challenge, the pass is at 16,000 feet! but if you don't spend much time there it's no big...
