Like the trip to the Canyon , seeing the country side and Vicunas and the canyon. The canyon is very scenic, pre inca. My visit was less then 24 hrs and hard to judge other sites. Got up very early to see the Condors, which was a about 2 hr away. Eventually the condors arose; this was somewhat anti climatic... More

I booked my tour through my hostel, Mercadores. I chose the 3 day trek... Worth it if you have the time. It's the same trek, just spread out which allows you to enjoy the journey and not just get to the destination. I was lucky enough to be on a tour with just 3 guests in total so service was... More

Did a 2 day trip from Arequipa. Long drive but astounding scenery. Road hits 4910m so a literal high point of the trip. We stayed at the Colca Lodge. Long dirt road drive in to Cruz del Condor. Take binoculars. Our summer is best viewing time: birds are nesting in Jan/Feb.

The canyon and valley of the Colca river are beautiful. We had no difficulty seeing condors soaring over the canyon, but the Cruz de Condor is a tourist irritation that no self respecting vulture would want to hang out it in. Lots of interesting wildlife and desert plants in this ecosystem that is still quite intact. The little villages, pre-inca... More

A beautiful spot in the Andes. View is breathtaking. very thin air, plan to move slowly. We waited one hour for the Condors without luck. It was worth the trip anyway.

If you have the time I recommend taking the 08:30 bus from Arequipa direct to Cabanaconde. It costs 17 soles and takes around 6-hours. Once you get to Cabaconde drop your bags off at the hostel you will be staying at on the second night. It might be worth getting your return bus ticket from one of the shops. Make... More

We stayed in Chivay. We stayed at Pozo de Cielo. We got up early and overnight it had snowed on the very high ground, it was fantastic to see. The scenery in the canyon is fantastic and to see the condors is awesome. I am really pleased we saw this and it was certainly a highlight of our trip to... More

Mountains, the valley, incredible lanscape reshaped by the ancient argicultural terraces, lovely people. We spend two days and a night in the area. Three or four days would be have been better to get more hikes in and explore more of this impressive territory. We stayed in Cabanaconde area and it was much nicer and laid back than the more... I booked the 1 day tour for the Colca canyon, they pick you up at you hotel at 3AM, and its a 3 hour trip to a village where you get "breakfast" and then one hour trip to the canyon where if you lucky you get to see the condors but if not the hell of a trip it's not... More

It has been several years since our trip to Colca Canyon but it was one of the highlights of our trip to Peru. It was a very long bus ride from Arequipa to the canyon but well worth the bumpy dirt roads and the several hours it took to get there. You are on top of a canyon, very much... More
