My e day trek into Peru’s Colca Canyon exceeded expectations! The canyon’s beauty is indescribable and experiencing its magic so far away from the beaten path is the best. February is off-season for trekking in the canyon but really a great time since the weather is cooler, everything is green, and the cactus flowers and vegetation are flourishing. The adventure... We were told that no passable roads existed into this area until the 1940's and we were not sure the road we were on was going to be passable on the day we visited. It has rained the night before and they had been several small landslides. The road twisted and turned and made for a beautiful trip. We stopped... More

We did the 2 day trek with a tour group and it was excellent. The first day is a long walk and is tough on a little part. The oasis at the bottom was beautiful with a filling dinner. The walk up is steep but only short so that's ok. Take swim gear as the hot springs are perfect after... More

I also went doing a tour without a guide. Good and bad things: + you have more freedom + you can choose your own hotel / meals + you can decide to stay longer or do another route + it is cheaper but is it not a lot! - routes or often not clearly with signs marked. - if you... More

Here's your list: - Get there early for the best seats - Don't be afraid of heights - If you're a photographer, carry a long lens - Wear sunscreen - Bring water - Be patient - Take a walk along the trails afterwards, go see the "animal graveyard" where they place the carcasses to attract the Condors (which are, after... An amazing place that combines a lot of Peru's beauty. The viewpoints are beautiful, but the most interesting part of it is inside, so a tour hiking in for 2 or 3 days is highly recommended.

You cannot miss out on the canyon if you are in this area. It is stunningly beautiful, from the snow-capped volcano peaks to the beautiful greens, blues and amazing rock formations of the canyon itself. We did a one day tour from Arequipa, and although the start is early (bus pick-up between 3 and 3.30am) it was an amazing day,... More

At our trip to Peru February 2015, we decided to hike in Colca Canyon without a tour guide. We took a Public bus at Terminal Terrestre in Arequipa (Reyna looked better than Milagros). The price was only 17 soles per person departure at 11:00. We arrived in Cabanaconde after 6 hours and stayed at a Lodge called Pachamama Hostel. You... More

We came here and stayed in Chivay. We trekked along the canyon for a few hours and saw amazing views. Vicunas are plentiful too.

We visited Colca Canyon with Colonial Tours. It is a visual feast to see these massive birds (wingspans up to 3 meters across) soaring on thermals above what appears to be almost a bottomless canyon. We have heard of the plight of the condors - our guide Yrene explained they are getting more rare and endangered and so tried to... More
