I visited Laguna Salinas with several friends while living in Arequipa. We had to hire a private guide and its a long drive to the Laguna on a dreadful road. But seeing the view of the salt lake when you come over the mountains to the laguna is frankly one of the most amazing experience I have had in my... More

We rented a car in Arequipa to drive to Cabanaconde and the Colca Canyon. (Great trip! But the road from Chivay to Cabanaconde was rough, to say the least.) This reserve was just along the route and we stopped several times to take photos of vicunas. When we stopped for views of volcanos, the altitude was 4910 meters, or 16,100... More

Very wonderful place were you can see vicunas, lamas and alpacas. You can go there with a tour, you will do few stops to take pictures. If you drive, Be careful when alpacas across the street !

This national reserve is part of your route if you go from Arequipa to Colca Canyon, so all you need to do is look out your window. You'll see vicuñas, alpacas and llamas; birds are also abundant in the wet areas. The "cameloids" graze close to the road, so there are plenty of photo opportunities. The backdrop of volcanoes is... I was part of a group trip and this was one location on the agenda. I was nervous for this day because I knew we would be traveling to a height up to 16,100 feet above sea level. I had never been to high altitude and truly didn't know how my body would respond. Our bus stopped just outside of... More

Catch a glimpse of the wild vicuña. There are lots of opportunities. Amazing scenery with lots of wild birds considering the high altitude. Only short grasses and cacti can be seen here, but there are amazingly beautiful.

Salinas y Aguada is set up for the protection of the wild vicuna. This is the pampas, it is truly the middle of nowhere. There is nothing here to see except wild herds of vicunas, alpacas, llamas and guanacos. That said, if that is what you want to see, you'll see them here, all you have to do is drive... More
