We did a home stay on Amantani Island as part of a three island Lake Titicaca tour. The cruise to the island was wonderful. The lake was calm and beautiful and you could see the snow capped mountains of Bolivia off in the distance. Upon arrival to Amantani we were greeted by many local families. It took just a few... We travelled with a family group including 2 young children, on a 2D/1N trip organised by Allways Travel. This was one of the highlights of our trip to the south of Peru; the family we stayed with were very hospitable, the rooms were very comfortable - for a homestay - and the food they served was good and filling. Our... More

The bluest of blue water and sky. Puffy clouds and greener than green grass. The people live simply, but I admire it tremendously. It is like a little utopia of bliss. I recommend going, and if you can, arrange for a stay overnight with a local family on the island. It was a memorable experience for my husband and I.... More

We had booked a tour with SAS travel in Cusco for a trip to the floating Islands of Uros, a home stay with a family on Amantani Island, and another island visit (Taquile Island) the following day. It was worth every penny, and more. The family we were assigned to was warm and helpful, and we were accompanied by the... More

My friend and I stayed with a local family who lived high up on the island ( a hard walk if suffering from altitude sickness!), we were made to feel very welcome. We had a few Quechua phrases and our spanish phrase book, lucky for us our "papa" spoke spanish and he would translate to "mama".It was a wonderful experience... More

An isolated island on the amazing Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3800m (12,500 ft) above sea level, so evening can be quite cold. We were assigned to a host family who, like most families there, live in a very spartan house with no electricity n no flushing toilet. (Ironically noticed there were wires n switch... More

The day and night we spent in Amantani have been one of our greatest experience in Perù. We stayed with Ermenegildo's family, one of the oldest man of the community. Sharing the lunch and dinner with them, walking from natural terrace to the other passing donkeys, sheeps, people hoeing the fields, children running over the hills without having to breath... More

I was taking classes at Academia Latinoamericana and they organized a trip for everybody to go to Puno, the Uros islands, and then to stay overnight at Amantani and visit Taquile the following day. I had a great time exploring the Uros islands, but Amantani was truly incredible. Their civilization exists 100% in harmony with nature; all food is natural... More

It was nice to stay with a homestay family and learn about the stories and lifestyle on the island. It's interesting that some chose to stay on the island. It can be misleading to believe that they all live a simple life. Some have children that are studying abroad in foreign countries. The food is simple. Soup, rice, cheese, and... More

We booked a 2-day-1-night Uros + Amantani homestay + Taquile tour through our hotel. The place we stayed was a two-storey clay house. The owner's room has electricty and light bulbs while our rooms don't. The food they cooked was not very hygienic... One of the beds almost fell apart (a big piece of wood fell off). We were looking... More
