My boyfriend and I loved visiting the Paracus National Reserve. We, like many other visitors, actually wanted to do a boat tour to the Islas Ballestas but unfortunately there were no boats because of too much wind. So we did the National Reserve instead. We booked onto a tour and had a great guide - very informative and quite an... More

We actually wanted to do a boat tour to the Islas Ballestas but unfortunately there were no boats because of too much wind. So we did the National Reserve instead. We took a colectivo to Paracas because we had thought (Lonely Planet made the suggestion!!) we could do the reserve on our own - BIG mistake. The national reserve is... More

We did a 4 hour tour of the reserve and it was a waste of time. You basically drive across the desert and stop at a bunch of shore lines and cliffs, and it gets really really repetitive. We thought we would see alot of cool animals like seals and flamingos, but we only realized after the tour that these... More

Very limited attraction. It was ok. If you are pressed for time, you can skip it. If you have teenagers I would recommend staying longer in Huachachina for some dune buggy, sand boarding experience, atleast you get to do something. The restaurants they take you to in the Reserve is also a tourist trap, bring a snack with you so... More

I thought this was really great. We could not get to Ballesta Islands because of rough seas, so this made for a great alternative. I have never been to the desert before, so it was very interesting seeing this one, especially since it is juxtaposed by the ocean. The views are really quite beautiful and it was really interesting seeing... More

Cool area that was once underwater. One of the most fascinating sights here is a red sand beach. The color of it was unlike anything I have ever seen. Worth going to check out

Its wonderful that Peru has made the Paracas Oceanside Desert into a preserve, but there's not a lot to see there. Extensive sand dunes, some sea rock formations, and a few birds are good to see if you have a couple of extra hours in the area, but the preserve does not compare with the Ballestas Islands cruise or the... What a beautiful paradise! I just hope it is not lost with the industry going on around it. It was interesting to note the boundaries of the park and how some of the coastline was not within the boundaries so it is about to be taken over by industry. There is an awesome little restaurant it is right at the... More

The Ballestas Island tours are popular but you will get more out of the trip if you stop at the new visitor information center at Paracas Wildlife Reserve. The story of the guano boom and bust was very helpful background info on the role the birds have played in the area's history. This area is not as well-known as Machu... More

This is not a must see, but is worthed the visit if you have couple of hours after Ballestas Island tour. I don't think a 2,5 hour tour is necessary. It is best to go around with private transportation to stop at locations you would like to enjoy the view and take beautiful pictures. The burgundy beach is impressive as... More
