We flew from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado(southeastern Peru), rode in a boat 3 hours up river into the Tambopata National Reserve. Pleasant ride with frequent animal stops to view. We came here as a cheaper alternative to Manu and were not disappointed. With any jungle you have to be prepared to see nothing but our guide (Guillermo from Wasai) took us to the best spots. We saw caimans, capybaras, tarantulas, macaws and more! Even without the wildlife the plants and communities in the area will interest you for weeks!

from the time we boarded the river boat in Puerto Maldonado and until we re-boarded the boat to come home it was truly a brilliant experience. The lodge made us feel so welcome and the tours of the surrounding nature reserve were just un-real.. This is truly recommended for a jungle experience.

Sadly it was rainy in the mornings so we did not see the masses of Macaws in action, but we saw plenty flying around the lodge. The... More
