One of the most impressive national parks of Ecuador. Grandiose views of mountains and the hundreds of lakes and ponds. A paradise for trained hikers (possible tours of several days) but also accessible for (very) "normal" hikers. One tour: on the road up to Cajas after about 15 km from Cuenca a small road to the left indicated "Laguna La... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the mountains. The scenery is gorgeous with many lakes and breathtaking views. It was nice to be able to stop for a snack and restroom break at the main station at the half way mark. It's usually very very cold so dress warmly.

If you like hills and walking but don't mind the freezing cold, then this is your place. It has some beautiful scenery even on cloudy days. You have to keep in mind that this place is about 14,000 feet above sea level, sitting right on the continental divide, so it might be one of the highest points that you can... More

Perfect place to get away from the noise and traffic of town. There are several routes to take and some take several hours or most the day if you stop to enjoy. There is a top of the world cafe with limited menue at visitor center. It is free but sign in at headquarters. No maps. Take raingear and good... More

Lower part of the park off the main road from Cuenca to Guayaquil, this part of the park is lower and separate and well worth the visit. An easy walk around the lake, limited to 114 persons in the park at one time.

At 13,000 feet elevation, even moderate to easy hikes can be taxing, but for the scenery this was definitely worth it! Around Lake Toreadora took about 2 hours and left us exhausted and visually overwhelmed. Not the best marked trails, but you are in view of the ranger station and restaurant at all times. It may have been the exertion,... More

If you are in Cuenca and are fit enough for a hike, you can choose a one or two hour hike from the ranger station that will allow you to roam through some of the most beautiful high country in the world. Buses run from the Terminal Terrestre frequently, but you have to stand by the main road to hail... More

A must see, something completely different from any park in the USA. Would recommend to bring very warm clothes as it is very very cold!!

Boy was this an interesting trip! This was my very first hike and although I hated it while I was hiking because I was still getting used to the altitude, this was one of my favorite trips in Ecuador. My tour guide was amazing and enlightened the mood with random jokes as we were hiking. I enjoyed almost every minute... More
