The park is located 1 hour from Cuenca, over 4000 meters above the sea, and temperatures below 14 degrees. It has many routes to walk, from 2 hours straws to camping sites for experimented hikers. The best time to visit the park is when they open in the morning, because they close the routes for newcomers after 12.00. The park... More

We were going to visit Cajas on our own, but after realizing we'd see more and learn more with a guide, we went with Apullacta Tours. Our guide, Milton was very knowledgable and prepared. He actually has a 4 year university degree in Ecuador tourism, and he was born and raised near Cuenca, so his knowledge of people, flora and... More

Important: Guayaquil bound buses no longer stop here. There is only one company that will take you there and the hours are 10am, 12pm, 2pm. I think there is one sooner but don't make my mistake and arrive After 10. You will want to get to the park early to enjoy it. The ride there is just as amazing. There... More

This was my second visit to the Cajas NP, and it still captures the eye and stirs the imagination. There aren't too many parks with such easy access above 13,000 feet. And 14,000 feet. There are parking areas and well prepared trails to get out into the more accessible areas. Still, remember you are over 2 miles above sea level,... More

Took a day trip to Cajas from Cuenca. First off, you don't need a tour guide to visit Cajas, the park and trails are easy to navigate. We rented a van with driver for the day who also took us to the airport (about $80 for 7 of us), instead of paying $50 per person for an agency tour. The... More

Close to El Centro. Bus service at Feria Libre to the Cajas. Check for schedule or take a taxi, about $10.

Amazing place, the hike I did was gorgeous. Many lakes, dramatic scenery, and 1500 year old forests.

El Cajas National Park is not a site to be missed. The spectacular scenery will not be surpassed. Bring good hiking shoes. It is worth it.

Stunningly beautiful, quiet, and thought provoking....good news, no ATV's buzzing around creating havoc.

Take the bus and get out of Cuenca to visit this incredible park, it is amazing and definitely worth it! If you plan ahead you can definitely do some camping or stay just outside of the park. We hiked route #2 - Cumbre del Cerro San Luis. We went without a guide, so make sure to register upon arrival. It... More
