Though it was hard to walk at altitude, the scenery around the lakes and mountains was exquisite. I found the flora of the region especially interesting, with a mix of rainforest, grasslands and strange Polylepis forest. Luckily the trails we did were mostly level or descending. The tour we did with Polylepis Tours provided an interesting commentary in English and... More

Cajas is one of the most stunnning places I have been. Sharp peaks that go down to a maze of beautiful mountain lakes. Cajas is deffinately worth a vist. To get there from Cuenca take a bus towards Guayaquil, ask to get dropped off at Cajas. The Cuenca-Guayaquil buses actually pass through the park and are a cheap way to... More

We spend an amazing day in El Cajas, with absolutely spectacular scenery. To get there we took the Guayaquil bound bus from the terrestial terminal and asked the driver to drop us at the park entrance (which is where we had planned to walk around the lake as so many here described as the most beautiful activity). The driver though... More

Fantastically beautiful. I could spend many days hiking through this pristine environment. I encountered beautiful lakes, llamas, deer, birds, and flowers.

High altitude national park with stunning vistas. The "cajas" are lakes that are throughout this huge park. Well marked hiking trails offer options for various skill levels... although the high altitude requires one to be fairly healthy. The flora if very cool, as this park is above the tree line the plants and flowers have adapted to this cool and... More

It is a very unique place, if you like walking you have to go hiking in Cajas, go prepared for colder temperatures though. They have tour guides who can take you all around the Cajas area. You are going to see llamas and other animals in your excursion, you are going to be experiencing what is like to be away... More

We took a cab from Cuenca to the Teradora park entrance. It was a little disappointing based on the splendid reviews but still interesting. The landscape was more stark then lush green. On the drive up from Cuenca we passed some really nice scenery and a few animals on the side of the road. To be fair .. the park... More

This highland national park features imposing views of the mountains, with a lot of lakes and "chorreras" (long stream waterfalls). Nice for horse riding and trekking (carefully because of the height). Excellent trouts served everywhere, grown there artificially.
