We enjoyed hiking for a day trip in the national park with local tour guide. Great experience. So beautiful.

Lots of play equipment and also a duck pond. large open area where the kids can run, which they cant in the city! Good for a picnic with big old gumtrees!! (Wonder where they got those!!)

Starting with that is a very cool place, high altitude, sometimes can be windy and raining; but no one of those facts will change the feeling of beauty, Andes nature. El Cajas National Park has local Eco-Restaurants and a very know local and international restaurant and hotel and restaurant called Dos Chorreras. So you can go for a long walk... More

Beautiful high altitude, bleak landscape. Very cloudy, wet and cold when we were there. Reminded me very much of the Scottish highlands, but they don't have hummingbirds there! The visitor centre has good information, a cafe and facilities.

Great trip even in the rain. We were provided wellies for walking through the mud. Ask for Amalia, very talented young woman who speaks great English as your guide.

Stark and raw terrain. Cold, windy and wet and yet gorgeous. Views and visitas are simpley astounding. Our guide, Miguel Merchand (bilingual Spanish/English) did a great job explaining the geological formations of the area, but made it fun for all (we were a very diverse group from 6 to 70). If you like to hike (not hard if you are... More

Cajas National Park was AWESOME! We were hiking, turned a corner, and there was a flock of alpacas/llamas! So fun. We took a guided tour. I would highly recommend this for all outdoorsy folk, and even non outdoorsy folk! The hike was really easy.

Don't be deterred to see the lake or hike in other parts of El Cajas National Park because you saw the big park entrance fee, high tour package fee (~$40); concerns on high altitude or issues of safety. We had these concerns too, but found the info from many guidebooks being out of date. In reality, the park is FREE... More

I've driven through Cajas four times on the highway between Guayaquil and Cuenca. The views are breath-taking (maybe aided by the 4000m altitude...)! Mountains, valleys, lakes, patches of woods, waterfalls and streams, and a good chance of thick fog or heavy cloud cover. It's a nice experience to drive up/down through the cloud layer. You can see wildlife like llamas... More
