If you visit Cuenca, Ecuador do not miss a visit to this beautiful cathedral with a most interesting history. It was never "finished", but is in regular use. The story of its construction is interesting and explains why it was never "finished". More

Beautiful and awe inspiring. This is an amazing structure. There is no charge for admission as it is a functioning church. Just wish they had available for purchase a booklet with pictures of the interior. More

The three sky-blue tiled domes of the Cathedral rise over Parque Calderon and are visible from many parts of the city. Inside, as you would expect, it's a place of reverence and prayer, with the traditional stained glass windows and high arches of a Romanesque cathedral, reminiscent of the churches of Europe. While it's called the New Cathedral, construction started... More

I stayed in a third-floor apartment right behind The Catholic Cathedral, and I had the good fortune to look at it´s architectural glory every day. It spans half a block wide by a full block long, and you can spot it from virtually every vantage point in this entire city. But as spectacular as it looks from the outside, it... More

The striking blue domes of the new Cathederal are constantly appearing on the horizon as you get closer to the main plaza of Cuenca (they also become a useful directional guide as you wander about the city as you only need look around to see them and then understand which direction you are heading). It's worth taking some time to... More

As cathedrals go, this is very nice if you like a lot of light. I don't enjoy dark, gloomy cathedrals but this one is very airey. The stained glass work is very good here and you can spend time just viewing these works of art. More
