It was abou 10 years I haven't been in this place. Let me tell it has change so much. Its more secure for everybody who visits Ecuador. They have a couple police officers walking around. The view is gorgeous to take pictures. To go upstairs to the balcony it's only $1 per person, and also the view it's nice. The... More

We had a free morning, and so three of us caught a cab from the historic center of Quito up to the Panecillo. We did ask the cab to stay and wait, which he was willing to do - it cost us $8 roundtrip. The views from up here are nice, though I think the Teleferico views are more spectacular.... More

The view of the city is nice, but the monument is blah.. its worth it if you go to the restaurant there and eat.. but there are better views of the city that include the Panecillo in it (Cafe Mosaico, Vista hermosa, Water Museum) Don't put it as a "must" in your list.. go if you have spare time, or... We took a taxi from Mariscal to the Panecillo for about $4. We loved the views, and the steep drive up is equally as interesting. You get to see a different side of Quito. There are some artisanal vendors outside in the parking lot. You can also walk up inside the base of the statue, which is a beautiful structure.... More

We happened to visit on a beautiful, clear day with great views of Quito and the mountains (including snow capped volcanoes). The city just seems to go on and on...

Nice view over Quito. The monument itself didn't really excite me, but the view over the city is the main attraction. We arranged a taxi from Plaza Grande to go up, wait for us (20-30 minutes) and take us back for usd 10, which we didn't negotiate, so we could probably have saved a bit. Didn't try the teleferico, so... More

We stopped here while on the 'hop-on hop-off' bus tour. The weather was good and the view was great. We were warned by a number of locals that this could be a sketchy part of town to walk around in. I wouldn't recommend the hike up because of the perceived threat but we did enjoy being dropped off at the... More

La Virgin de Quito is situated high up on the surrounding mountains of Quito and this beautiful statue overlooks the whole city. The locals claim that it is the only statue in the world depicting the Virgin Mary with wings. Make sure you haggle with the taxi driver for a good price to take you up there, wait for you,... More

Up on a hill overlooking Quito this statue of the Virgin, also known as the Virgen del fin del mundo, is hard to miss but takes some time to get to. Unusual given its wings!
