This statue is visible from almost every part of Quito. It is made of over 700,000 pieces of aluminum. The face is absolutely beautiful. Souvenir stands are at the base of the statue as is the wonderful Pim's restaurant and their Potato soup.

Just south of the old town and located on a hill, the monument El Panecillo is a decent place for views over Quito's sprawl. I'd recommend a trip up there early evening as you have the sun behind you. It's worth spending a dollar to enter the statue too as the views are even better. You won't need long up... More

The views from the panecillo are awesome. La virgen itself is an awesome sight. Go up there at night to see rhe city lit up at night. Only go at night with someone that is familiar with the area. The neighborhood is not very safe to walk or to get lost in. It's worth the trip, though.

recommend going through the douoble decker buses, make sure you wear a nice sweater or layer up. There are shops situated nearby but you can find the same stuff for cheaper elsewhere. Also if you need to use restrooms they charge you 10 cents. Otherwise they give you a decent amount of time to explore and one doesn't have to... More

we stayed in Quito for some days and therefore as a must, we visited El Panecillo. Even as the view from the top over Quito is really nice, La Virgin for itself is a big monument where you should look to much in details. the view from the distance is much nicer in comparison to the closer details, but it's... Wonderful views of Quito worth the taxi ride. You can return to the center by bus. Probably best not to walk back down.

Watch your purse and take a taxi or bus, avoiding the rough neighborhoods surrounding the hill. Many vendors, many tourists, much noise, crowded at any time. Visit and then spend more time elsewhere.

We didn't climb the statue but took photos from the outside in the afternoon. There was plenty of souvenirs to buy here but we didn't. It takes a longer drive by our guide to get here than to look around. Steel statue with a snake wrapped around her feet is pretty impressive.

We visited this imposing statue of the winged virgin and saw the wonderful vista of the city of Quito & its surrounds as part of a city tour. It was really interesting to go up inside the statue and see how it was constructed from scaffolding & aluminium slabs. Our guide explained the history of the area and pointed out... More
