Located in the center of the city, dividing Quito into North and South, la Virgin del Panecillo provides a great point of orientation within the city and stunning views over the city. Standing tall and proud, a snake on a chain representing the evil and a crown of 12 stars, each representing a month of the year. The Virgin hence... More

If you want to see the local life and look at Quito without spending extra money to go up on Teleferico, this is the place for you. Local shops are nice and have good stuff. they are also open to bargaining. Only thing you need to be careful of is the thugs. This is in the old area of Quito... More

Get the best view of the town and some history lessons at the same time. This is a must do. Take advantage of the location and get some hot beverages at the tiny shops outside the monument.

(03/27/15) I was impressed and is kept in my memories "La Virgen Panecillo" - From this point you can enjoy a 360 degree city views .This monument was inspired by the famous "Virgen de Quito" or Quito's Madonna. It is located at 200 meters high in a volcanic origin hill. Its peak is at an elevation of 3,016 meters above... More

The statue is amazing and it is very big and is visible from all different location of Quito and other tourist attraction. It is quite eye capturing. The view of Quito city at evening is a must see. From here you can view La Basilica, parque Inchimbia and other sites in Quito.

The Virgen stands over 100 feet tall on one of the mountains surrounding the city, and, above the old town. She's made of sheets of aluminum with her feet standing on the dragons of hell to protect Quito. Beautiful views from up there and lots of street vendors in the area with local crafts.

This was an ok place . The statue is actually seen from a lot of places around the city it's not very nice close up actually it's quite ugly. It looks like it's made if grey breeze blocks or concrete! There are the usual vendors around but beware if crime! It's a magnet for thieves and do nit go at... More

One of Quito's must sees, mainly for the view over the colonial heart of the city but also to wonder what twisted mind thought a twisted statue would look good up on top of the hill. The people in the south of Quito complain that they only ever see the virgin's bottom.

I wasn't all that excited to go see this in person, close-up, but I'm glad I did. It's definitely a tourist destination, but is a must-see landmark! The angel looks over the North of Quito, which is why it is believed to be prosperous. You can actually go up the statue (like in a lighthouse) and look over Quito. Beautiful... More

Many reviews suggest that you should drive to the statue, but if you want to be rewarded with increasing amazing views, take the time to climb the (many) stairs from Quito city centre. It's not a task for the unfit, but as you climb you get better and better views of the city and surrounding area. By the time you... More
