Great place to sit and look at the interior. Close to other churches and the main square. Very easy to get cabs to and from the area.

This is an interesting church because many of the carving have a gold leaf covering. Also, the Jesuit were expelled and the Virgin of Quito as a symbol of their devotion to the virgin. It has a great history to this church. It is in the old part of town.

Beautifully-decorated church. High sculpted and painted dome. Note the South-American typical clothed statues. Entirely gilded and baroque.

We went in to at least 8 churches in the Old Town, however this one stands out for all the ornate carvings covered in gold. It was started in 1605 and took over 150 years to finish, due to its elaborate decor. Cost $4.00 per person to enter but it is worth it.

This is a Jesuit church which charges $4 for admission fee for non-Ecuadorian passport holders. The church went through a massive restoration within the last ten years. At the moment it is entirely covered with goldleaf, a bit jarring to my eye. I could have skipped this one. I found other churches in Quito far more interesting...

We visited the Iglesia as part of a guided tour of Old Town. The church itself has beautiful architcture and an interesting history. The latin-captioned artwork on the walls takes the cake, though. You can't take pictures in this church without permission, unfortunately.

For churches, this one is particularly rich in interior gold leaf. Sizeable, and breathtaking interior. Right in the heart of old town.

Stunning church, interior beautifully decorated with gold leaf and paintings. The only thing is, I thought that $6 was a bit expensive for entry compared to other sites and photos were not allowed even without flash.
