La Compania de Jesus was the original name of the Jesuits. This originally was a Jesuit church dedicated to their founder, St Ignatius ,until they grew out of favor and had to leave town and the church was given to a local Order. An earthquake destroyed much of it . It was returned to the Jesuits and restoration began until... More

Gorgeous church. We just happened to go on a Monday when no admission was charged. To get in, just ask the man at the gate to open the gate for you.

The guilded church is beautiful. Its amazing and breathtaking to behold, not comparable to the churches of Rome of course but still beautiful.

This church is not very pretty from the outside but it is rated No. 1 so we paid the $4.00 and went inside. It was all gold; everything was covered in gold. While this obviously took a great deal of time, effort, and skill, I found it a bit gaudy. We didn't stay very long and were not allowed to... More

The guilding in this Jesuit church is stupendous beyond description. Unfortunately, photos are prohibited inside, which makes it difficult to convey the full brilliance of this baroque masterpiece. Every surface seems to be covered with gold. A fire created a lot of smoke damage, but it's all been cleaned up except for one cherub's face in the central dome that... More

The Church of the Society of Jesus, known colloquially as la Compañía, is a Jesuit church. Two important religious events are tied to the Church of the Company: one of these was the daily visit of Mariana of Jesus in prayer, first holy Ecuadorian who was consecrated in this temple and chose to dwell forever. Mariana died in 1645 (XVII... More

It is breathtaking to walk in there. The inside is gorgeous in true Spanish baroque and moorish styles. Worth the visit. You can also ask and go to the roof and visit the rotonda on top. There's a mirror in the center, towards the altar in front and it helps you to look to the beautiful ceiling without your neck... More

I have visited churches in numerous countries, but this one stands out. Gold gilt everywhere, absolutely worth paying the entrance fee to see it. They charge because there was a fire a few years ago and they need the money to restorate.
