Definitely worth a visit. Best with a guide on a tour, or if not on a tour, hire a guide to get all the history!

This is unlike any church I have visited and will remain my favourite churches of all time. The church is the best example of baroque architecture. There is a small fee for entrance but is totally worth it. Every corner of the church is filled with exquisite artworks. The interiors shimmer in gold and is absolutely breathtaking. This may be... I have seen many churches and cathedrals throughout South America and Europe and I can say this is one of the most beautiful. If visiting Quito, this is a MUST SEE.

This baroque church is a must-see if you are going to Quito. Built between 1605 and 1765 it is considered one of the best examples of Spanish Baroque in the New World. The interior is covered with gold leaf. Solomonic (twisted) columns grace both the exterior and the altar piece. No candles in this valuable church -- too dangerous! Rather,... More

Great place to sit and look at the interior. Close to other churches and the main square. Very easy to get cabs to and from the area.

This is an interesting church because many of the carving have a gold leaf covering. Also, the Jesuit were expelled and the Virgin of Quito as a symbol of their devotion to the virgin. It has a great history to this church. It is in the old part of town.

Beautifully-decorated church. High sculpted and painted dome. Note the South-American typical clothed statues. Entirely gilded and baroque.

We went in to at least 8 churches in the Old Town, however this one stands out for all the ornate carvings covered in gold. It was started in 1605 and took over 150 years to finish, due to its elaborate decor. Cost $4.00 per person to enter but it is worth it.
