Casa del Alabado was one of the first museums we visited during our 2 months of travel in the Andes and it gave us a great introduction to the many themes explored again and again in the pre-columbian shamanic world. The museum's architecture and gallery design is excellent and cleverly corresponds to the three different 'worlds' explored in the collection:... More

However the emphasis is on art and it's role in the societies covered, rather than on the history of Ecuador and its previous civilizations. So don't expect a great history lesson. The Casa del Alabado is one of my favorite stops in Quito. A serene environment, the exhibits are well-organized around common themes through the cultures and their artworks (which seems to be a trend in pre-Columbian art museums, right?). The collection on display is well-sized, and the exhibits are nicely interactive. Many of the works are piercing. Depending on your... More

This is simply an amazing museum. If you never got to another museum this is the one to take out out to see. I spent two glorious hours and one can spend even more time here. It is a 5 star privately held museum. Truly amazing. I also love the store that is right next door. It sells something from... More
