To begin with, we love to stay at family run places. This hacienda is a generations-old family dairy farm and horse ranch. There is nothing corporate about it. Gabriel and Patty eat with their guests, pure home cooking. They speak very good English, share their personal history, discuss the land, the soil, the horses. We felt like family friends. The... Nothing corporate about this rustic family dairy farm and horse ranch turned guest house. The owners are some of the friendliest people we met in our tour of friendly Ecuador. The setting is strictly bucolic, and entirely beautiful. The rooms are comfortable, the food is all home cooking. The horses are quality, and very well trained. At 9000 feet elevation,... More

We came to Quito on a family vacation and decided to visit this wonderful place... Mr. Gabriel was a great host - he spent ample time instructing my husband, son, daughter, and I how to ride horses. It was such a wonderful experience - we enjoyed every bit of the time we spent here. Mr. Gabriel and his wife, Patty,... More

While staying at La Alegria we took our first horse ride. Although we had never riden horseback, we were quickly given the basics of riding and introduced to some wonderful horses. We took about a 3 hour ride through the beautiful country side with stunning views of the nearby mountains. Our horses were calm and gentle and we felt at... More

A day in La Alegria won't ever be forgotten, the family who owns and runs this gorgeous hacienda makes you feel like old time friends in a few hours. You won't regret spending a day or a week here. Picture a gorgeous property (we did not stay overnight but we will come back one day to sleep) in a gorgeous... More

I liked the homely feel of the accommodation and the owners. If you are worried about animals this would be a good place to stay to ease your fears. I was scared of horses yet I rode horseback every day. The horses were so calm and intelligent. I enjoyed the flexibility of mealtimes to suit the guests. The gardens are... More

I rode recently at La Alegria whilst on a Volunteering trip to Quito, and thoroughly enjoyed both the riding and my stay at Gabriel and Paty's lovely Hacienda. I returned to go on the 2 day ride to the Cloud Forest, which comes back through the high Paramo, and had the added pleasure of being shown round Oswaldo's orchid garden... More

We spent a wonderful day with Maurizio at Alegria Farm. He took my husband and I on a 3 hour horse ride up into the mountains followed by a delicious meal and tour of the farm. We got to see the horses, llamas, and cows at milking time. The farm is beautiful and the views along the trail were spectacular.... More

This review is long overdue, as I travelled to Ecuador end of 2012 and had the fortune to spend three days at this beautiful farm, so rich in history, with newly furnished comfortable rooms that overlook the serene misty hills and countryside. The main reason for my visit was to attempt some horseriding, which I'd heard was one of the... More

Just about an hour's drive south from Quito you will find the most delightful family owned and operated hacienda/farm that caters to visitors in the most friendly and attentive fashion you can imagine. Alegria is a real working dairy farm where you can view the entire milking operation. We went there specifically to do some horseback riding in the countryside.... More
