This is a big river and pretty fast in a lot of sections.

They offer white water rafting on the river in certain areas and I think that would be worth it if you like action. We just took a short 30 or 40 minute ride in a long boat. It's sort of like a dugout canoe but it had a motor on the back.

We recently spent five days cruising the Napo River out of Coca, Ecuador. Monkeys, birds, pink dolphins, cayman, wild pigs and small piranhas were on the agenda but they weren't easy to see. The Anakonda was nicely appointed with excellent service. The guides were also terrific. Recommended.

Getting there was the start of a great adventure, flew from Quito to Coca, just outside the largest national park in Ecuador, Yasuni. From here, a bus takes you to the Napo River for a 2 hour motor launch trip after which it is another 2 hours bu dugout canoe to the lodge. The food was served buffet style, not... More

Whitewater rafting on the Napo River in Ecuador was the most fun I’ve had on the water since I was a kid! Wanted to be in the water but wasn’t sure how to find the right group – not too easy but not too hard…. The owner of the eco lodge where I was staying helped me find Alex, a... More

We visited the Napo River as part of our Gate 1 itinerary, staying at La Casa del Suizo for 2 nights. To get to the hotel, our bus dropped us off at Punta de Ahuano where we boarded motorized canoes, then rode on the river for a short ride to the hotel. Our activities included a visit to a local... I went to Ecuador and the Amazons with Gate 1 Travel in November, 2014, it was a great experience. Traveled in the Andes, see a lot of the native life and then to the Amazon in the southeast of the country, near Tena, Ecuador, to the jungles along the Napo River. Our tour guide Marcelo is very knowledgeable, very pleasant,... More

I rated this four stars, which included a 2 hour grueling hike, zip line, suspended bridge and muddy walking throughout the jungle to get there. The river was nice and the rafting at the end was a blessing, but the trek there was so exciting that I included the whole of it in my review. Fell 3 times in the... More

If you want to visit the Amazon, I highly suggest La Casa del Suizo on the Napo River in Ecuador. The approx. four hr drive from the capital makes it worthwhile. My husband and I enjoyed every second of our stay and would definitely take our girls there next year. *Not recommended for children under 5 yrs. A three-day weekend... More

If you want to see the rainforest in all it's glory, take a cruise on the Napo river in Ecuador. The Napo is a tributary to the Amazon. It is wide, shallow, muddy and ever changing. Metropolitan tours has a paddle wheel type river boat called the Manatee that cruises the river and from which you embark a hikes thru... More
