My husband and I booked a full day’s birding with Renato Espinosa. He picked us up at our hotel in Quito at 6 am with coffee and sandwiches and we set out for our first stop which was Antisana National Park. Our main goal here was Andean Condor and Renato maneuvered us in the perfect spot to watch an adult... More

We took a day trip out of Quito to visit the Antisana Reserve and Lake Mica. The drive out there was spectacular. Lots of volcanic cones everywhere you looked and we did manage to get a glimpse of the snows on the Antisana Volcano peeking out of the clouds. We saw two other people on our whole day!!! The views... More

We visited the Antisana reserve and lake mica on a birding tour. There were hardly any tourists here and it was a peaceful ride. We saw many birds including sword-billed hummingbird, Andean condors, many caracars and black-faced ibis

I planned to go there with a friend thinking that this was a public ecological reserve, however, there is a limitation if you want to go to the Antisana volcano - even just to have a look- You need a "Salvoconducto" or from EMMAP that allows you to enter there...I find this ridiculous and this information is not provided at... We visited Antisana Ecological Preserve on a birding tour through Tropical Birding. From the moment we reached the preserve, we saw gorgeous views and multiple birds, including several condors only meters away. We wound up with nice pictures of about 25+ different bird species over the course of a few hours. Like other reviewers have said, wear extra layers! When... More

We went in the Winter and we were able to see 4 Condors, several different birds I cannot remember their names, a deer (which we hear is unusual) and other wildlife. It was very very cold and windy up there at over 12,000 feet but well worth the layering. We even had a box lunch and ate on the bus.... More

This day trip wasn't actually apart of my plan. The day prior to this day trip, I went to the Bellavista Cloudforest Reserve for a day trip and had an exceptional time with my guide. He told me about this destination and asked if I'd be interested in visiting this ecological reserve. After some consideration (I needed to fly home... More

If you are planning to visit this reserve you need to have special written permission beforehand our travel company Surtrek organised this for our Photographic adventure around Ecuador. Once inside the park we were lucky enough to see a condor nest albeit at quite a distance !! Also there are many caracara beside the road and seem very easy to... More
