Taking a Chilean cuisine class with El café Vinilo’s chef was by far one of the best experiences I had in Valparaíso . This is the only place in the city that introduces participants to the history and culture of Chile and its food. The participants get to cook 5 to 6 traditional Chilean dishes. Gonzalo the chef gives the class in Spanish and English.Pebre, Pisco Sour, Ceviche ( The Chef explains the difference between Chilean and Peruvian Ceviche) Charquican (one of the most important dishes in Chile) Chuchoca de Maíz and Puré de papas con Naranja y menta which is a mi of mashed potatoes with oranges and mint .Before the class starts, we get all the ingredients needed at the local market where you can find all the typical Chilean fruits and vegetables. The class includes enough food samplings for most people to not need lunch afterwards

We were very disappointed, Gonzalo was very nice, friendly, took us to the market, then to his parents' home. But we had asked to learn to cook fish, which was frozen, and no special technique, the fish for the ceviche was also frozen, the drink we had was Fanta Schop,( Fanta with beer!)no Pisco sour or wine as promised.we didn't... I was looking for an authentic experience in Valparaiso, and I got it with with Gonzalo's cooking class. First, he took me to the market to get the ingredients for that night's meal. We sipped on mote con huesillo, a traditional Chilean drink made with dried peaches and wheat, as we traversed the food stalls. Back at the kitchen, Gonzalo... More

Our group of 4 had a great time with chef Gonzalo. Gonzalo is not only a trained chef but also very passionate about Chilean culture and cuisine. We learned about the dishes we prepared as well as new culinary skills (knife skills etc). After dinner Gonzalo took us to a special lookout spot to view the entire city at night... More

It turns out that it is not easy to find cooking lessons in Valparaiso that center on authentically Chilean food. Peruvian owned and influenced restaurants have been taking over and becoming increasingly popular. The two of us had a 6 hour day with Gonzalo, first at the local market, then in the compact but very functional small restaurant/cafe kitchen. We... More

Cooking Class: I chose Chef Gonzolo Lara after reading reviews because I thought we would get a more personal cooking class that the #1 ranked class. Gonzolo Lara is $12000 pesos more, but again personal service instead of the other class. We started at approx 10am. We did not go to the market - disappointed. Chopped for 3 hours -... More

in Valparaiso for the day with the family and after having a lovely meal in cafe vilno we decided to take gonzalo's course. It was great fun and incredibly instructive. we learnt all the Chilean classics from a true master. I would highly recommend it to anyone from a family to a group of friends.

After five months of studying in Valparaíso, I decided to splurge and take Gonzalo's Chilean Cooking Class. Cafe Vinilo is by far my favorite restaurant in Valparaíso and I wanted to know how to prepare my favorite meals once home. After six hours of cooking and learning from Chef Gonzalo, I can safely agree that it is an amazing experience.... More

We did this great Chilean cooking class in Valparaiso. Chef Gonzalo Lara of Cafe Vinilo is full of fun, if slightly crazy, and infuses this class with his passion for the local food. What I especially liked about his teaching approach was that I did not stand back to watch a chef in action. No, it was hands-on experience for... More

My husband and I went to Chile for our honeymoon. Our first day in Valparaiso we went to Cafe Vinilo for lunch and after eating their delicious food, signed up for a cooking class with Chef Gonzalo for the next day. I admit that I was a little nervous because while my husband is fluent in Spanish, I am not.... More
