Visited the Cenotaph , located at the Esplanade Park , when we watched the Singapore Formula 1 GP ,September 2014. Its a war memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives on WW1 and WW2 , British and allied soldiers and Singapore resident during that time period. Quite ordinary monument , but well preserved , and at its best condition

If you are a British citizen you feel almost compelled to visit this cenotaph, like it is your duty. It is comforting to see such a familiar landmark in a place so far away from home, but at the same time really makes you feel for the soldiers during WW1 & 2 and how they must have felt.

While visiting various attractions in Singapore we happened to pass the Cenotaph. We pondered and took some photographs. Would not have made a special trip to visit it.

Near the Padang and near many of the attractions of Singapore this cenotaph can be visited by anyone walking out towards Lavender as well. Ultimately this is a nice enough cenotaph to honour the fallen of World War One and World War Two. There is nothing special about it and these sort of things exist the world over but it... More

I came here for a photo taking session, together with Lim Bo Seng Memorial, Indian National Army Heritage Site and Tan Kim Seng Fountain, this is the best. A few names stated on the walls, supposedly the heros during the World Wars. On the stairs, you have years 1914 to 1918 on on side, 1939 to 1945 on the other... More

It would appear that many of the reviews for the Cenotaph refer to the Civilian War Memorial down the road (Describing it as having 4 pillars etc....). This Cenotaph is, in common with ones which stand in Hong Kong, Georgetown (Penang) and many other Cities which were once part of the British Empire provide a visual reminder of the history... More

Place where local youths hangout and used to skateboard off the steps until police shut that down. Motorcyclists congregate at night. Nothing much to see, although the park nice and from the River you can see the laser show the casino puts on at night.

I walked to the Cenotaph the day after the 70th Anniversary of The Fall of Singapore. Lots of floral wreaths still on display. It was very moving to read the cards and tributes. In the hustle and bustle of Singapore this is a place for quiet reflection on the past.

Went in Dec 2011. The cenotaph is one of several monuments you will find as you do the walk along the bay at Esplanade. Ok walk with some monuments to both world wars fallen heroes. Well worth a walk on a sunny morning. But don't expect to be blown away. Did come across a couple of Buddhist monks in full... More
