We happened upon bukit batok nature park and the war memorial. It is a lovely park with some beautiful trees and many interesting birds and there is an old quarry full of turtles. War memorial is interesting but there is not much to see.

This can be combined with a visit to the Old Ford Factory museum, if you don't mind a walk of about 1km or so. But there's really not that much to see once you get here as the old Japanese shrine was destroyed before the surrender. All that is left is a plaque with some brief information and the concrete... More

It's just a plaque on the steps that go up towards the radio mast. However it is in Bukit Batok nature reserve, which is more of a park than a reserve but nice enough (you can see monkeys there). Not worth making a special visit just for the memorial, however combine it with the Ford Factory Memories Museum (Japanese occupation)... More

The Bukit Batok Memorial marks the location of what was once the Syonan Chureito shrine at the top of hill ("Bukit" means "Hill" in the Malay language). During the war, the Japanese forces had ordered the British and Australian allied forces prisoners to build the 40 foot high shrine. Shinto services and burial ceremonies were held regularly at the site.... More
