Affectionately known among locals as the "durian", Esplanade...

Affectionately known among locals as the "durian", Esplanade is one of the busiest arts centres in the world with about 3,000 performances presented yearly. Spot our prickly cladding in the middle of the central arts and cultural district, and take in the view from the Marina bay waterfront where our Outdoor Theatre is situated. Coming to Esplanade means that you're in for a complete lifestyle experience, from enjoying a night out at a show, to shopping and dining. And whether you're a first-timer, an ardent patron or fellow arts lover, you're most welcome here and we'll do our best to give you a great experience with the arts.

I love the Esplanade. The exteriors are amazing. The walk along the waterside just outside the Esplanade is an experience in itself and the evening complete with the bustle of icecream sellers, lovers sitting by the walkway, boats in the water and the glittering Marina Bay Sands and nearby building make for a beautiful ambience. Inside, the theaters by the... More

The area is great for checking out food carts and taking a stroll along the marina waterfront. It's easy to reach by MRT or via a short stroll from the conference center.

You probably seen them on a picture or from your hotel room window. The two huge durian fruits or metal bugs in the corner of Esplanade Dr (Nicoll Highway) and Raffles Avenue. They are Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay which pretty much sums it up. Find out whats on at Esplanade.com

The theater area was nice and clean. The price for tickets seem reasonable. If you walk out around this area, you will find a lots of choices for restaurants and bars.

Dropped in on a free event (a short set from a pop-jazz band) at the open theatre - it's cool in the evenings and if you get the timing right, you can see the light show at the Marina Bay Sands behind the stage. Being Singapore, the concrete seating is clean. And there's a food court nearby - not to... More

There's nothing much to do here (unless you come to see a play or something) except to get a close-up view of the two "durians" which form the roof part of the building inside which I assume are stage theater rooms for plays and such. But right beside the building (right side from facing the main entrance) is a boardwalk... More

Besides offering world-class shows and entertainments, Esplanade is another architectural wonder of the 'Lion City'.

I have attended several classical concerts here and found the facilities to be very good and the hall acoustics better than average. The nearby restaurants and shops and adequate parking make this a good place to spend an evening.

Staying in Marina Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighborhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.
