What I like about this place is seeing inmates behave as if they are not prisoners. The place is quiet and OLD. You will be guided along non-restricted areas and later on be brought to the souvenir area wherein the items sold here are made by the inmates. So far, this place is to showcase an "ideal" prison setting but... More

Hearing about the Iwahig prison and penal farm sounded interesting so we decided to see the place. It was a long drive from Puerto Princesa but it was worth it. We saw some prisoners tilling the lands and some were selling souvenir items which they made themselves. It was a different experience interacting with the inmates in such kind of... More

For PHP 500, we rented a tricycle in Puerto and visited the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm plus other tourist spots along the way. The Prison is the farthest tourist spot from Puerto. Prisoners getting ready to be freed do not stay in areas with barbed wires and bars. Instead, they stay on regular cottages. Those interested in farming and... More

The penal colony is divided into minimum, medium and maximum security inmates. The minimum security inmates are allowed somewhat free access within the colony to perform their duties and responsibilities. Mostly it is manual labor on the rice paddies and other farm related tasks. The historic building are not maintained and under decay. It is worth going to Balsahan once... More

gives you a glimpse of what vacation behind bars means. prisoners here are allowed to roam around and interact with visitors, souvenir shop serves as their livelihood project where proceeds go to money sent to families back home or as start up money for when they get released More

There are no bars at Iwahig. The prisoners (minimum or brown shirts) can mingle freely with the guest. They also have a dance troupe which performed for our group. We bought wood articles, key chains and food from them. The income they derive from their wares and from their farm are for their daily needs - and some even send... More

It didn't involve the beach, but it was one of the most interesting experiences I've ever had - in the best way possible. To see a community such as this was amazing. More
