Made organised a fun, instructive and most of all tasty cooking session for our family ( with 2 kids who cooked as well). She made it very personal, told us lots of stories, accommodated our requests and wishes. It was much more than cooking, it was a beautiful opportunity to get close to local life and culture. My only advise:... More

We did the culinary tour on motorbikes. We really wanted to try the local food but were a bit unsure of the hygiene at a lot of the places. The guides took us to places that were both delicious AND clean. Ask to try Murtabak (a kind of large crumpet).

Took an evening indo cooking class with Made through Viavia. Overall good experience, would do again. Pros: - class of 4 people upstairs in a private kitchen makes for good interactions - you get to pick the menu - end up with a large meal - Made does a great job walking you through indo food basics (uses of spices/herbs,... I would have never though about doing a countryside biking tour in Indonesia, until the owner of my hostel (Sae Sae) recommended it (and obviously, being Dutch and all, you kind of have to try biking everywhere :)). And it has been worth every penny. I was alone, together with a lovely female guide, which gave me plenty of opportunity... More

On researching for a trip from yogyakarta to Ketapang (Bali ferry) I came across ViaVia and initially, I thought it was expensive, which compared to doing it yourself it is, however with limited time and on arrival in Java we booked the Overland to Bali via East Java 2 tour, I'm so glad we did as it was really well... Many people come to Yogya and do Prambunan and Borabadur then move on. While Prambunan is impressive, there are some great smaller temples nearby covered in the Hidden Temples tour at Via Via - much more interesting and rewarding than Prambunan alone and it gets you out to some beautiful countryside areas.

This is one of the best-run social enterprises I've interacted with. The staff are quick and helpful in answering queries, and always friendly. We did two tours - the jamu tour (which was excellent and great fun - you get to try out traditional medicines), and the sunset walk from Gunung Kidul to Parangtritis. What we loved most was that... This tour operator has a great down to earth vibe, where I felt I was getting an insight into the local community, whilst providing a good level of service. We did the Kali Code (River) Walk, Prambanan and the Hidden Temples, and Borobudur. I would recommend all of these tours, and this tour operator. The tour guides were open, friendly... More

ViaVia is a treasure-trove of travel tips and tours. They organize tours of all kinds, from food, to history, to trekking or biking. A visit to their shop is worth your time. They have a small coffee shop & restaurant, and large photo-filled books highlighting all of their tour options. A 1st class operation.

I booked 4 tours & 3 courses with ViaVia and I got to see Jogja the way the locals do. The tours were catered to my needs, the guides and drivers were full of information to share with this curious visitor. I am a happy camper. I will recommend their Batik and Silver Courses to anyone who is interested. It... More
