We met up at Vogel's Hostel at 4 a.m. for breakfast and a briefing by Christian, the owner who is considered an expert on Merapi. Due to an injury, he didn't hike with us, but sent us with another guide. We set off at 5 a.m. The hike is definitely not for the out-of-shape as we kept a good clip... More

You either like it or hate it. I like jeep ride so this is an enjoyable trip for me. IDR300 for the 2 hours journey, it was filled with trucks and dust. The driver/guide is very helpful and a good guide, helps with taking some great pics too!! Just like what was written here by other reviewers, you will see... More

My husband, 15 year old daughter and I all agree that our visit to Mt. Merapi was one of the highlights of our trip to Jogyakarta. The jeep we hired was very old and dilapidated compared to some of the other much newer 4 wheel drives but we think this added to the appeal of our experience. The man who... More

Merapi hiking was tough. It may not be high but it was a stiff climbing. Be prepare to challenge your physical and mental to reach for the peak. Climb on the midnight, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise from the top of the mountain, believe it is one of the most beautiful scenery ever

The ride was ok only. There are many mining trucks (for sand) which slow down the jeep movement. Face mask is provided which was good

Climbing the Merapi can be seen as challenging! A good condition and good shoes are needed in order to get to the top safely. We did the Merapi sunset tour which meant that we started climbing the vulcano at 1 am and arrived at the top just before sunrise. It was beautiful!

But a extrem experience and only for people how are good with walking long distances don't underestimate it. The way up is only half the way.... More

I went to this place with my husband. We were curious to see mount Merapi, but later wished we could have skipped it. We rather saw the destruction caused by it. To enter the area, we had to rent a jeep. There were no roads, so the region was bumpy. The whole area was dusty because of the destruction caused.... More

You can't really visit Java without seeing a real-life volcano, and what better than to get up-close-and-personal with the world's most active one? We wanted to do one of the jeep trips over the lava fields, but the pick-you-up-at-your-hotel deals you get at tour agencies in Yogya are pretty pricy. So, we decided to get to the volcano ourself, which... More

Merapi is best place to go in this region. Volcano which is still active with villages which were distroyed after last eruption are tremendous! Important! When you come there by day - you can rent a jeep which will take you to the foot of the volcano, but if you wish to climb - find local guide - unofficially they... More
