The majestic active volcano of Jogja! It's amazing how this active volcano sits so close to town. I didn't hike up unfortunately. It's advisable to hike up with a guide, because to see the sunrise you have to start hiking in the middle of the night. You would leave your hotel/hostel (assuming you're in central Jogja) at 10 pm and... More

What we can say about visiting Mount Merapi is nothing but GOOD. You can explore the surrounding by jeep, you can hike up the mountain, you can learn the history, you simply can do lots here. We recommend you to visit Mount Merapi as how our students who learn Indonesian Language with us (ALAM BAHASA) also do it. You can... More

Merapi is a volcanic mountain at the city of Yogyakarta, you can drive to there in about 1h30s from the central city of Yogyakarta, you can see a very beautiful landscape of merapi mountain with a jeep, it's usually called lava tour, there's many packages with more time and destination the cheapest package is only 300k rupiah, and once again... Whilst in Bali we took a domestic flight to Jogja with our Balinese friend of many years and stayed at a lovely B/B his cousin found us. His cousins study in Java as the fees are so much cheaper than in Bali o theknew where to take us for Balinese food eg babi guling etc. His other family live near... More

The 4WD Jeep ride was part of the tour package arranged by our travel agent. It was an experience not to be missed. The jeep driver took us through some dusty terrain heading to Kaliadem Village which was destroyed during the last eruption in 2010. We were given a paper mouth mask to cover our mouth & nose. There is... More

They might think they're guiding the most happening thing in Jogja so they think everyone already know what to expect. Well no. I'm hesitating to spend any money to the wrong attitude and find amusement elsewhere.

Our group loved the jeep tour up Mt. Merapi! It's like a bumpy roller coaster as the driver whizzes along the gravel-like, pothole-filled road and hills. Our driver did not speak much English, and we could not see the summit because of clouds. However, the scenery was still beautiful, and the ride was so much fun! (It was a trip... More

When you charge foreign tourists exorbitant amounts of money, the least you can do is having english speaking guides in the location. Without that, this place is completely skippable as it is far from the city and the tour within is not very pleasant either.

We really enjoyed this trip in a jeep to the lower slopes of Merapi. If you think you are going high up, you are not. The tour over bumpy tracks of lava takes you to superb vistas of the volcano and to village and houses that were destroyed in the last major eruption. Aspects are like a modern Pompeii. Our... More
