I was studying Bahasa Indonesia at the University, situated approximately 10 kms. away from Merapi Gunung. Merapi Gunung means "to have fire" Mountain. Magnificent.

We went on an overnight trek arranged with the Great Tours agency located at Sosrowijayan 29 in Yogyakarta. The name seemed a bit corny but the title describes pretty accurately the service that we received as the staff were helpful without being pushy and the tour turned out to be exactly as it was described by the agency. We were... More

It was my first night trekking (of my life) to the top of Mt. Merapi. The trek got little petrifying on the way while it was pitch dark, started raining and we were lost. But I enjoyed this experience. On reaching summit; all we remembered was how scared each-others were hahahahhahah!!! Train ur legs before u get on this adventure.

First of all if you want to get to the top of the volcano, check for the right trip. That one involves a 4 km hike across very rough terrain and is only possible from one starting point. Most of us do the 4wd that goes to within about 7km of the top. What you do get is a journey... More

This is the first time we have gone on a jeep off road ride. We were given a face mask, due to through out the ride, it can get really dusty because of the volcano ashes. The ride is bumpy. Along the ride, we passed some villagers house that were destroyed, museum, bunkers and finally end at a spot where... More

I'm a fit person and this was my first volcano climb. The guy at the reception of my hotel told me I chose the most difficult one and now I have to say he was right, but the view from the crater is something that left me speechless. My friends and I left the hotel from Yogyakarta at 10pm and... More

Went there without planning as me and my mom finish borobudur and taman sari tour in the morning. Our guide suggested to visit mount merapi and there we went. Took the short trip (regret not to take the long tour). Went to visit the destroyed village, rocks and the shelter where 2 ppl killed. Great 4x4 ride with lots of... More
