There were 3 stop stations in total while heading to the top of the mountain. I had a rest at the 2nd stop station, and ended up due of my stamina. Even though I only saw the sunrise at the 2nd stop, it was really outstanding, very nice combination of all the nature, but I suggest to reach the top... More

There are two option to hit the road to merapi. Jeep or bike. We had a jeep lava tour to merapi and it was awesome! the ride was so adventurous and fun. When we got up there , the fog kinda covering the view of the volcano. Weather was a bit windy and fine. Surrounding view are calm and peaceful.... More

This volcano is about 45 minutes drive from the city of Yogyakarta. Take a car to the place near Merapi golf course. And then have a Jeep Land Cruisser off road drive to the volcano area. It is beautiful and great experience.

What we loved the most bout this place was the Jeep ride. Its really exciting sitting in the jeep going thru the bumpy road. The day we visited this place it was raining and the weather was simply superb. The jeep ride include the visit to the museum which shows the damage that the volcano eruption did to the village.... A long way from town. We hired a car and driver to get to the general area, cost about Au$55. Then we took a jeep with driver to get closer to the volcano. There are lots of jeeps around the area. Guess our driver took us to his favorite. An expensive day out but worth it. There are several jeep... More

Merapi is one of the more difficult mountains to hike up compared with other popular places such as Bromo and Ijen, but let me tell you it is totally worth it. I enjoy putting effort for rewards so hiking through the night (1:30-5:00) was tiring and definitely hard towards the final summit, but reaching the very peak to see the... More

Organised through Agung tourist service on Jl. prawirotaman (next to ViaVia) SO easy. They organise everything, pick you up in the evening to climb all night to see sunrise! Take plenty of water, spare torch and warm windproof clothes! The guides are great and although not all of the group made it to the summit, a guide stayed with them... More

We made a day trip through our travels in Java. Worth the money to take a Jeep tour. It was not overly expensive and was interesting to see what happens when a Volcano erupts

Not recomended. Far from city app an hour. Poorly maintain jeep and poor route to the so called museum which is a leftover damages house from the last eruption. No proper public restroom provided. Not for children below 15 due to the rides and limited facilities. Beside the Merapi view , there is almost nothing to promote except old damaged... More

This is pretty touristy but worth doing to get a picture of the power and destructive capability of a volcano. The jeep ride around the volcano site is a bumpy, dusty one but the end results of the ride are worth it. It's very popular and I don't remember it being expensive. Good for a half day excursion.
