I just coming back from Yogyakarta, and one thing that my children love in this trip is to ride with jeep around Merapi. We take a short trip with 1-1,5 hours and the price is around Rp.250,000-400,000.... I think It's reasonable. For short trip, you only stop in 4 places, but if you see something interest you can ask the... More

Standing as 'twin' volcanoes with Mt Merbabu. Located in central Java, it could be climb from the north, boyolali side or southern side, kaliurang side or Jogja side. I preferred climb from the north side, coz more easier and shortest way to 'puncak' / top. If you decide to climb from north, your first stop should be Boyolali bus station.... More

Started out excited to see the Great Merapi, which was visible all the way to the top whilst driving but after an excruciatingly bumpy ride in a jeep to reach about 5 km from the Mount, the top was cloudy and could not see the Mount in its full glory. It was an experience though to see the havoc wreaked... More

The place is as beautiful as any outdoors location, in season, neither crowded, nor hot. The view however is quite plane and not comparable to the photoes of errupted Merapi.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience of visiting an active volcano on a jeep. The rough jeep ride brought us up an area near Merapi which had erupted in 2006 & 2010. The 2010 eruption was pretty devastating as many villagers & farm animals died. Along the way there is a wooden hut which housed household items like TV, cooking utensils &... More

If you’re planning on climbing to the summit for the sunrise, make sure you get plenty of rest during the day. The trek is gonna be quite tough and you must at least be reasonably fit. Our guide picked us up from our hotel in Jogja at 10pm. The journey to Selo took 2 hours. We waited at the home... More

went to see in the early morning. You can see it from 5 km away only. The Volcano near Bandung is better to view.

This is one of the most moving experiences ever... I had heard the news reports of the massive eruption of this volcano, at the time, in 2010, but actually walking over the top of buried villages and seeing the destruction is quite another matter. I have to admit to finding myself crying a few times this morning. The Indonesian people... More

I have a thing about volcanoes. I first saw Merapi on a flight from Denpasar to Jakarta. From the plane I thought I was watching a cloud floating over a very high mountain, then realised it was a smoking volcano. On the return trip, and staying with friends in Yogyakarta for a few days, we could see Merapi way into... More

I recommend you to go to Kaliurang in the morning. You will spend 1 - 1.5 hours to reach Kaliurang and Lava Tour Merapi from the main city. When you arrive at Merapi tour site, you will face many offers on the tour, whether using jeep or motorcycle. Do not worry, they maybe pushy but you will not find any... More
