A group of us went on the Jeep Tour and it was great fun!! It is still an active volcano and the tour went through the jungle areas as well as areas of decimation by the last eruption...it is certainly an eye opener because it could erupt at any Tim. After all the side stalls - where t-shirts, hats ,food... More

It was 90 minutes driving car from Yogyakarta City to the Merapi Mount. We got there on 9 am and started the Off Road Jeep Tour at the starting point. It was an amazing experience everyone should have. The view along the way up to the mountain was epic. We went to the off road trails, went to see the... More

This is a good place to visit. Plan it along with Bororbudur visit. There are motor bikes tours available. They will only take you for short trip, take the jeep tour.It is an eye opener to see on how bad volcanic eruptions can be. Carry a light jacket.

Its cooler at elevation - villages along the way are worth visiting. Take time and explore. If erupting it is out of bounds, naturally. See how much reveg has happened since the last eruption.Take a bus from Jogja - it's cheap.

It is wonderful to hike the Merapie, but you need good condition and more easy is a nice 4 wheel jeep tour.

At the bottom you can rent a bike or just ask a local to give you a ride to the first obstacle ( usually a fallen tree or lava leftovers. The brave ones continue on foot until another obstacle ( usually the path disappears under chaos caused by lava, and no one seems to be cleaning/ renovating it). I dont... More

We were not sure what to expect! The jeep ride is a great roller coast and when we started is was drizzling so we put the roof up. The rain soon stopped so down it came and the roller coaster began. This is an active volcano that actually erupted and killed people not that long ago! There are sites where... More

This is the first time in visiting a volcano.. Our good suryadi was awesome. Though his English was average he explained quote a lot of things.. The type is like roller coaster and he charged us 350000 for two and he said he can take 4 people for the same cost. He also offered us pure Vegetarian stuff to eat... More
