Got a real adventure...you can go to the top by jeep or can try to climb it by your own...you should try this lava tour

Something very unique n rare experience..to see the merapi 'live' n enjoy the thrill jeep ride to the top. Children love it n asking for more. Nice view of the whole merapi frm the top..

Took my Dad up to the crater of the volcano. It was bubbling. Locals were boiling eggs in the steam and selling it!

Beautiful hotel, very clean and spacious rooms, lovely little balcony. This is one of the best experiences I've had so far. I suggest you take a good full day rest before doing this. The hike starts at 1am from the base camp and ends around 9am (if you are quick enough). It's a total of 9KM, but once you are up there, fatigue just goes away... and then of course... More

Was traveling from Borobudur back to Yogja city so made a stopover at Mt Merapi. On arrival, I was offered either a jeep or mountain bike tour (Rp300,000) just to see damaged buildings from the past eruption. Don't assume you'll get a good view ! The cloud base was very low when I went, in the rainy season. Bear in mind, whatever you paid for your outing, the four wheel jeep ride at 300k per jeep is an 'add on'. It wouldn't be very interesting without it. The lava tour will bring you to the villages which were affected by the Merapi Volcano few years back. The tour is conducted by private jeep and cost you around Rp. 300.000 per package for 1.5-2 hours tour. The trip is quite dusty, so you'd better prepare a mask to avoid breathing in too much dust....
