This monument is important for Indonesia, as it is built to commemorate the struggle for Indonesian independence. Stop by awhile to take picture with this landmark~

The MONAS shows inside the history of Indonesia my a big range of dramatic diarama's. All of them are very detailed and well maintained. On top of the MONAS you have a very nice view over the city.

It is really about Indonesians' independence. The monument symbolizes the date, month, and year of our independence day. All this is explained when you are inside the display room. You get to listen to our national anthem too when you are sitting in a room displaying the proclamation text read out by the voice of our first President, Soekarno. To... More

Went there during their national holiday (Dec 26) and I was told that they were on holiday till Jan 1. Therefore, many local people spent their time at there. The top of the monument itself was an observation deck and you had to pay to go up there. We did not go up because there were too many people queuing... More

Be prepared to wait in a long, hot line.....it is a great view, but we were on a high floor in our hotel and could see a long way. This is a great view and we are glad we did it, but we were not prepared for all of the walking and the wait.. No cabs or buses are allowed... More

The National Monument is Indonesia's Washington Monument. It is surrounded by a large park. The lines are long to get to the top, so arrive early is what we were advised. We never went up the monument, but toured the park extensively, which we enjoyed. It was a festive time in Jakarta (January 24 & 25, January 25 being Mohammed's... More

We were here as part of a half-day city tour, on the morning of the first day of Chinese New Year (19 Feb) that was a public holiday in Indonesia. It was around 10am when we arrived but sky was dark with slight drizzling (but soon after we left, it began raining heavily). However, as it was a public holiday,... More

The Parking Lot: There was no standard regulation for the parking lot. There were some parking attendants that seemed illegal. They did not wear any kind of uniform and there was no parking ticket. We paid IDR 5,000 for parking. The Monument: There were many people come to see the monument at night. Most of them took the picture with... More
