Used Krakatoa Tur based in Carita and a man called Thom as manager as recommended by a previous review below. 2 days 1 night trip. Absolutely brilliant - everything was organised perfectly everything was safe, guides with good English. Everything was thought through properly - food on late arrival, water and even got to meet Thoms English students afterwards and... More

At quite short (ie, one day's) notice I was able to do an excellent day trip from Jakarta to Krakatau, organised by Ibu Tuti of the Jakarta City Government Tourism and Culture Office (on the ground floor of the Djakarta Theatre Building, across the street from Plaza Sarinah). I was collected right on time (5am) by my driver, Pak Ibnu... More

Mount Krakatoa or better known as Gunung Krakatau in Indonesia, is an island and famous of its biggest eruption in 1883. Its eruption produced tsunamis that smashed thousands villages in Java and Sumatra, and also produced small island near Gunung Krakatau called Anak Krakatau/Son of Krakatoa which is also an active volcano. This place is historic and has a magical aurra about it. Anak Krakatau sits grandly next to the imposing neighbour Rataka. You land on black sand beach and take short stroll through the shrub and then make the easy climb. The higher you go the rockier it becomes so wearing trainers is best (but can manage with sandals). You can... More

Remember, this is Indonesia. There is a scale for people/cost per person, a single traveler being around 4 million. Funny enough, there were 5 of us at the morning meeting place of Thom's, Krakatau Adventures. A couple, 2 women and myself. Between the 5 of us we could have paid at least half of what we did as the 5... More

First, the website that is linked to this attraction is not the only tour operator and I used Krakatau Adventure and Thom, so this review is unrelated to the link above. Do a Google search and you will find my guide. I'm going to spend a lot of time on this review, providing as much detail of the trip as... More

If you plan to visit Krakatau from Jakarta and are on a budget, than this is a challenge, but so worthwhile. You catch the Jakarta Busway bus to Terminal Kalideras. Than you catch the transit bus from Kalideras to Labuan. When you get to Labuan you can either go by motor bike or Bemo to Carita Beach. Once at Carita,... More

If you are in Indonesia this is a must see side visit. The boat trip out we saw an shark whale, which in itself made the trip worth it. A very hot hike up, but great views.

Well I might say its not wise to do so, but I hiked to Krakatau while she is active. Regularly erupting stones & dust every ~30mins with extreme loud bang! I went here with 15 others, took the simplest route that I know: Jakarta - Carita - Jakarta (rent a car) Carita - Krakatau - Carita (rent a boat with... More

Cant get a more memorable Christmas day than camping and trekking on Anak Krakatoa. We booked a 2 day 1 night tour of Krakatoa. We were collect from Jakarta airport and driven to Carita where we stayed the night. The next morning we met our guide and headed to Krakatoa. The sea was ok, a little rough as we got... More
