If you like local color, a fever-pitch atmosphere and people-watching, go to the horse races at Happy Valley (this venue being centrally located on Hong Kong Island is more easily accessible than the Shatin Racecourse in the New Territories). Entrance to the General Stand is HK$10 payable at the entrance. For HK$100 and upon presentation of your passport, you can... More

Beautiful setting at night and easy to access by transit. Lots of ATM's and the cashiers are pretty good about assisting with bets. However, unless you LOVE to smoke or inhale second hand smoke, best to keep your money and head somewhere else.

A little hard to find where the entrance is but once you get in, it is fun to watch the horses and jockeys.

You should experience a horse race at night. You will be stunned by this tremendous course and the matchless atmosphere of the stadium.

This racecourse is in the middle of all the tall buildings it is a sight to see they have used every inch of land and because they love there racing so much it is fantastic. So well kept.. Enjoy your winnings.

It is a great way to see another way of life in Hong Kong if you are a tourist. The money that is spent is amazing. Can be a cheap night out on the rails or a great and expensive night out in the stands. Having managed to get an invite to a box it is hard to go back... More

Wednesday nights in Happy Valley are just plain fun. I usually just go to the beer garden to watch the live music and the races. It's mostly expats, and it's an energetic, young crowd. Also, it's only $10 Hong Kong dollars. Once I made the mistake of getting a ticket in the stands, and it was depressing. Low energy gamblers... More

Go every year when I'm in HK on business, it's amazing to go to the races surrounded by sky scrapers and when the sun sets with the flood lights on it's even more special. We always use Grayline Tours and I think when you can go some places and pay £20 for a pink in HK that spending £90 on... More

I was invited to go to Happy Valley Racecourse to watch the horse racing by a member and to sample the delicious buffet meal. At each table there is a large screen to see the racing action and the odds for each race. You can then go out to place your bet with the cashiers. When the racing starts you... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
