Don't like racing but enjoyed myself here

There is so much energy that it is contagious I had been away from English speakers for a while so this was nice to be with foreigners.

We went as part of an organised trip by the hostel we are staying at, and I am glad we did! It's the first time I have been to a racecourse, this one was set in a beautiful spot. The grandstand overlooks a residential area of sky scrapers so you can take in the view between races. At 10hkd to... More

Not a racing fan, but we went for the fun of it on WEdnesday evening as we were told entry was 10HKD (£1!) Actually we were let in for free as it was later in the evening. It was very busy - thousands of folks there, but good entertainment between races. Food a bit pricey. Fun evening.

Huge racetrack. Full, lively crowd during week of Chinese New Year. Entertainment, beer tents, concessions with limited food items. $10 Hong Kong admission (octopus pass can be used for entry fee). Early in evening very lively atmosphere, largely attended by Westerners. As the night goes on the place morphs into a night club vibe. Cheap night out! Fun on a... More

We paid for entry to the members area, then found that we were limited in where we could go. Anywhere you could see the races was just a fog of cigarette smoke. Make no mistake, this is a place for serious gamblers and it appears to be compulsory to smoke as well. The place is certainly spectacular, and a night... More

Surrounded by tall residential buildings, it creates an amazing atmosphere. Great fun and only HKD 10 (less than a pound) for entry. Races every Wed night except in Summer. A good night out for all and doesn't have the uptight feel most race courses do.

This was great fun, we got the tram there and back ,it's floodlit and only £10 to get in. What an atmosphere ! There's bars and music between the races and they parade the horses round before the races . It's a real fun night not to be missed .

Have a very good night, spending a bit of money and drinking beer :-) It cost only 10 $ to get in and the atmosphere is very friendly. My advise , bet on the horse with a name you like

(Happy Valley, Wednesday's, 3 times a month, no races during summer) Located in the middle of skyscrappers, the view is just unbelievable The ambiance is really great, not uptight at all, accessible to anyone You will drink your pint while admiring the horses and be able to bet starting at 1eur! The crowd is a melting pot of hk citizens:... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
