A lot of fun and watching the horses race is only a tiny part of it. Order pitches of beer and immerse yourself in the surrounding entertainment.

I'm not a racing fan but had to give it a whirl. Food in the public enclosure is awful and smokers everywhere. Left early!

We went on a Wednesday night and had a brilliant time. No need to know anything about the horses in advance - there are plenty of free papers around with hints and tips. The staff are very used to tourists and experts at checking they are placing the bets you wanted. We sat in the beer garden section for most... More

The best night we had in Hong Kong was spent at Happy Valley. This isn't the usual horse racing we have experienced before. It was a party atmosphere. Music playing, bands, lots of people and what a fabulous atmosphere. It is very easily located on HK Island. We caught the Double Tram right to the track and what a great... More

for just HKD10, you can access the grounds of Happy Valley on Wednesdays. It is now so rare to see a race held in the middle of the city, surrounded by high-rises. Go around around 8 pm, when the younger office-worker crowd from these offices come to party out. Go earlier if you want shorter lines to bet on horses... More

While the racecourse is a popular place for a night of entertainment, it's oft overlooked how damaging this sport is for the horses themselves. Horse racing is inhumane, and no matter how many beer stands are erected, it's simply not fun to watch the mistreatment of sentient creatures. Thumbs down.

Wednesday Night Races at Happy Valley is one of only a few "Must Do" tourist experiences - the others being the Star Ferry and Tsim Sha Tsui promenade at night (although not for the music and light show). Depending upon the time of the year and nightly theme the rowdiness and crowds can vary (opening nights for Oktoberfest are out... More

There cannot be a more stunning race track in the world. Happy Valley is surrounded by many of Hong Kong's 7000 skyscrapers. The Chinese love their gambling so the atmosphere is electric!

What a great way to spend a Wednesday evening. For HKD10, you are admitted into the race course. Minimum bet is HKD10 and there are seven races. What a deal!

We went on a Grayline tour to Happy Valley and had the best night out. We were picked up by coach and taken straight there. We had our own function room, about 30 people all up and our own tab facilities. We also had our own balcony to watch each race. The race caller was English which helped. On this... More
