We booked a dinning package in the Members on the sixth floor through the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The food from the buffet and the service was great and made the night very enjoyable.

Happy Valley racecourse is a unique place surrounded by high rise buildings on all sides and with a sports ground complex in the middle. Most racing here is on Wednesday nights - check out the beer garden!

Races on Wednesday evenings from 7pm except in the hot summer months. HK$10 to get in (swipe in if you have an Octopus card). There is a wide choice of takeaway food and drinks stands inside. If you wish to study the form, get a copy of the South China Morning Post during the day. Otherwise pick one with a... More

If you're in HK on a Wednesday when there's a race on you must attend. It's an institution. An iconic event and location. Surely there is no other race track in the world nestling among tower blocks?

This was a great night out, we were in Hong Kong with friends and they mentioned the races, so off we went. The place is big, biggest crowd I've seen at a race track, but you can have a bet, drink and something to eat with out a hassle. The track is very different to tracks in Australia as you... More

For the price and the descriptions of being in the Members area we were very disappointed. In effect confined to a long betting hall with second rate food from only one venue (except a snack bar). We actually asked if this was best on offer. It was. There must have been better but your tourist badge doesn't get you entry.... More

Join Hong Kongers betting on the ponies. The track is a bit lopsided but the racing is real, and fast. The high rise buildings around the track are amazing. You'll not see another race track like this one.

Had a fantastic Wednesday night at the Happy Valley Races! Caught the tram out then walked with the crowds. We were in the restaurant on the second floor at the football club end (sorry can't remember the name) and had a great view. The staff were all very helpful explaining their different tote system, and despite the tens of thousands... More

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centers of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
