The trip to Shek O beach took us about 30 minutes in a taxi from Wan Chai downtown. The Beach is named after the village itself. The 30 minute drive took us up and down the mountain, and the drive itself was very. One gets the birds eye view of the beach once you cross the mountain and start descending... More

If you have enough of the hustle and bustle of the city visit Shek O for a slice of old style HK. There are no skyscrapers, shopping malls or the constant traffic noise. A great day out for the family, with a beautiful beach and some great restaurants. Highly recommended.

Lovely family day at the beach, hassle free. MTR to bus station and then no 9 bus, can use your octopus card, 20/30 min journey terminating at the beach or take a cab around £10 from bus station. Lovely white sandy beach, some big waves though, need to carefully supervise little ones. Very good , clean showers and toilets, some... More

I did this with the dragons back hike, you can see my extensive review there, but basically to get here from Chai Wan station or the end of the hike is easy. 9 bus and about $7 HK each way have exact change. If you have trouble getting a bus a taxi will do I'd guess about $60HK from the... More

When I think of Hong Kong, there's only one thing that comes into my mind. Shopping. (and long walks..while shopping hehe). But seriously. I never thought there's a great beach near the city. When i found out i instantly asked my brother to go there. And so we went. I was surprised with the number of people! Theres so many!... More

Such a surprise to see that the south side of Central Island in Hong Kong has so many hidden, nice beaches - and Shek-O tops the list! Can be crowded on weekends but very few people otherwise! The view as you lie on the beach is stunning, as the beach is in a cove, surrounded on both sides by rocky... More

This is a small but popular village on a narrow peninsula on a far corner of Hong Kong Island. The only access is by car or bus 9. There is a small but dated minigolf course here and a good beach with cafes and bars lining it. The whole town had an old feel to it. There is also an... More

Catch the MTR to Shau Kei Wan and exit via the subway, you will see an above ground bus station and you need to catch Bus 9 and stay on it until it stops at the end. The journey is windy through the National Park and has fantastic views of the park and the sea. Shek O village itself is... More

Shek O is a pristine lovely beach, half an hour or so (by bus) from bustling Hong Kong. You can explore the village and the nearby green hills if you feel like spending a day out. If you're spending a few days in HK, consider a visit to this (almost) secluded place.

I have lived in HK for one year, this is my favourite beach, have visited it and dip in the sea from March to October. Not very big (if you want long beaches go to Sai Kung), but the atmosphere is very good to forget the busy life in Central or TSK, lots of young people, sand is very clean... More
