The Gele Hill area is an area of former prison camps and monuments to the people killed there. Visiting all the historic sites involves walking a few km however it's not strenuous. There is also a tour bus service but I didn't use that. There is also a forest park with lots of opportunities for hiking. The two prisons are... More

GeleShan is a good climb, but as with most places in China, the track is a series of steps. The steps are not uniform in height which makes climbing them uncomfortable sometimes. It's actually in quite a pretty place considering it was a POW prison. But getting in and out is totally disorganized (even by Chinese standards). And the fully appreciate the historical side of it you'd need a tour guide and be able to understand them.

Can see the torture chambers and dungeon-like cells the prisoners were kept in. A moving experience. Environment is a nice change to the metropolis, though it is still... More
